Putting aside the murky-at-best origins of the ask_jesus AI bot on twitch (Athene was the owner), I did find AI Jesus pretty good at sticking to the core message, or “the best” of Jesus’ teachings. I can see why, when people hear more loving and kind spiritual responses from AI, that they would turn to AI. It’s also a sad symptom of religion in America, which often feels hallow & self-serving.
An AI is a system that is managed by someonelse. It means that it can give a biased answer to serve a purpose. As personal data are easily accessible, it is possible to shape the answer depending on the users beliefs. If the user is pretty progressive, the AI answers could only push some moderate but still orientated ideas to slowly make people shift.
Using AI to get personal advices is choosing to get advice to the worst people you can find.
