Russian forces have reportedly reduced their use of Lancet loitering munitions in favor of first-person view (FPV) drones in strikes against Ukrainian artillery. A Ukrainian artillery battalion commander reported on May 13 that Ukrainian forces have not observed Russian forces using Lancet loitering munitions in strikes against Ukrainian artillery in northern Sumy Oblast and that Russian forces are primarily using FPV and fiber-optic drones for such missions.[44]
To me this very much suggests that Self Propelled Guns such as the Bohdana and Caesar are if anything increasingly relevant as a wheeled artillery truck capable of highway speeds can easily outrun an FPV over large distances and punish FPVs fiber optic or otherwise for being out of position by periodically abruptly relocating ~30 km or so. Lancet drones and other fixed wing UAV loitering munitions are much harder to outrun over larger distances for obvious reasons.
I also suspect that Ukraine is getting very good at detecting and destroying the loitering drones. If the interceptor drone can take out a shahed, it can take out lancet.
