The Rig, a British series set on a remote oil rig in the North Sea that becomes cut off from the mainland by a mysterious fog. Across its two seasons, The Rig steadily evolves from a tense survival mystery into something much stranger.
Although The Rig doesn’t directly adapt either writer’s work, it captures the essence of what made both H.P. Lovecraft and Stephen King legends of modern fiction. The result is a chilling supernatural thriller that weaponizes its lonely offshore setting and the ancient force hidden beneath the ocean floor, creating a show that feels like the perfect meeting point between the two titans of horror.
I’d never heard of this but that sounds groovy.
Can anyone else confirm this lives up to this delicious hype?
I enjoyed the first season a lot. The second just sorta ehh, first season felt complete second felt forced.
Oh cool, so you could watch the first season and dip?
That is my opinion on it for sure, but I’m not going to stop anyone from giving season 2 a try anyway.
I’m definitely going to check this out.
To add to the recommendation. The first season of “the terror” is amazing.
Each season is a unique story. Season one is based off real life events where the British navy attempted to sail through the north pole. Or something like that.
And there is this ominous vibe through the whole thing with these small horrors that stack up. Culminating in a true terror.
And I don’t want to spoil anything so I’m not going to say more. But. Wow. It was very good.
Trailer
3rd season of The Terror is airing right now! So far 2 episodes in.
Any good? I dropped out of season 2 but loved season 1. It’s strange as the concept of season 2 was much more appealing.
I think season 2 dragged a bit in the middle but I remember liking how it wrapped up.
I watched the first episode. Looking forward to the 2nd.
The reason for the cops being there and arresting him and taking him to the clinic seems weak but hoping that they explain that more later.
I also liked season 2 even though it was a different kind of vibe.
Not sure what to expect with 3. Cast looks good so far.
It’s actually based on a book by Dan Simmons and it’s hands down one of my favorite horror books. Such a great setting and fascinating history.
Okay now I have to read the book too. I didnt know. Thanks for the info
Can you give me a title? I’ve checked and there’s no mention to any book titled The Rig written by Dan Simmons. The wiki page of the series also said created by David Macpherson, with no mention to any of the Simmons works.
Apologies, I was talking about ‘The Terror’ by Dan Simmons. It’s a separate show that OP was talking about.
‘The Terror’ by Dan Simmons
Thank you, i’ll check that too👍
One more for my checklist 📜
