Charlie Brown and Violet are on the field arguing over the tricycle. He exclaims, “I wanna ride it!” “I wanna ride it!” She responds likewise.
He says “All right, just to settle the argument, let’s say neither one of us will ride it!!”
They walk off and she says, “That’s a good idea!”
They sit on the curb looking at the tricycle. He says, “But it isn’t very much fun, is it?”

Now THAT is awesome, and IMO what started to turn the strip so memorable and unique:
i.e. these little philosophical quandaries introduced upon kids who were barely older than toddlers. Yet it’s also kind of a ‘meta’ debate, is it not?When various folk talk about Peanuts being dull or routine, this to me is the kind of thing they routinely whiff upon.
It’s like Schulz was… opening up a little comics-window upon human psychology?
