I played on a D&D based MUD (text based precursor to modern MMORPGS) that had weapons like this. The gods (admins) realized the imbalance, they buffed all of the weapons, but then changed the names and lore that right weapon was made based upon the left weapon, but not actually the left weapon.

I started on Aber MUDs, but also played on a few dikus. I still log into TorilMUD. It started as Black Knight, then became Sojourn, then split into Duris (PVP) and Toril (PVE).
I met the woman who would become my wife on an Aber MUD back in 1993/1994.
I helped a few people learn English through mudding too. I still have friends from back then I would love to get back in touch with.
Duris derailed a few years of my life, fun times though.
Duris had some great additions to the game. I loved that ogres (and maybe trolls too) could wield a 2-handed weapon in one hand. And they could wield things like tree trunks two-handed.
