The threadiverse is small (compared to other major platforms) and I often see usernames that I recognize. How well do we notice each other around here?
I’ll start… my name’s “MrShankles” and I do be commenting/posting from time to time
I don’t really pay attention to user names when I read, but there are a few frequent posters that I’ve recognized
There’s a few big names, I usually find it interesting seeing which instances people are on and whether they carry some kind of theme. The people in the Star Trek instance, forget the name, usually have pretty good memes for example
I only tend to recognize the users I have assigned custom tags to. Usually to mark them as trolls or suspected bots, but sometimes just because they told a funny story or are enthusiastic about something specific.
I tag users occasionally when they stand out to me, so I recognize those people but often forget why I tagged them as such lol

I didn’t know this was a thing.

ROFL! I’ve always wondered if anyone had tagged me. Now I know!
There are a few users I seem to run into regularly, but as with Reddit it’s mostly disembodied thoughts floating in the ether. I personally prefer the more personal interactions of old forums. I feel like if anyone here knows me, it’s as that guy who’s constantly whining about how political everything is on here and won’t shut up about his ultra-niche hobbies.
So far, nobody’s mentioned recognizing me, despite the fact that I feel like I comment a lot (an unhealthy amount, really).
I’m not sure whether to feel insulted or relieved.
There’t something about your username that sounds…gruesome…
I recognize you!
In the sense I’m scared of the grues.
I for one, enjoy being a faceless number lol
The only opinion I respect is satansmaggotycumfart
I don’t recognise many, but there are a few that pop up regularly like PugJesus, Picard Maneuver and K O L O N A K I.
Aside from ladybutterfly and sunshine, I only really recognize people that I’ve tagged. And I tend to tag people for pretty arbitrary reasons.
I actually have you tagged as “User Tag Advocate” because I mentioned using tags for the exact same reason
There are some people i pay attention to more than others, certainly.
I mostly recognize names in the art communities, especially if it’s people posting their own art. You get to know a person’s style.
most usernames I’m seeing here I have blocked, due to the prolific nonsense they post.
I’m actually a bit surprised by the responses here. I know a lot of the names mentioned here, but there are more I don’t recognize than I had expected. Sometimes it does feel a little small of a group here, but seeing both the number of names I do recall aaaand all the ones I don’t both help me feel this place is about 50% bigger than I had felt.
It seems there are more of you I’ve yet to get to know. 😄
What I’m really curious of is how many people’s block lists I’m on. I’m pretty rarely controversial, but I’m sure I’ve had to have annoyed someone by now or bored someone to tears with endless owl superbness.
ah! i recognized your name but didnt place where from till you mentioned it haha, most recognizable anon out there!
long reign the superb owls!
where did your owl fascination start? are you on the spectrum? (feel free not to answer if you don’t want to, im undiagnosed but 99.9% sure I am)
Yes, I have really failed on staying anonymous. I’ve doxxed myself so much on here the only things I haven’t really given you at some point is a face reveal and my real name. I chose the name as just a simple throwaway since I was planning to just be a lurker, but the community soon started dying and I didn’t want to see that. I may have gone a bit overboard. 😅 You guys all seem to really love it though. I get so many DMs from people that really love what I share.
I never used to really think about them. I thought they were neat, but they never really took up much thought. My wife was the one that was a bigger fan, so one day I took her to a raptor rescue, and really getting to spend a bit of time around them apparently formed a connection. I would say I was still pretty normal about it until I started posting here. Then, after doing it every day, I really started to get an idea of how amazing these birds actually are. I’ve been doing this daily now for 3 years, and I still am learning new things about them on a regular basis. And starting last year, just reading and visiting wasn’t enough, so I volunteered at my local rescue. We don’t get too many owls since we’re a bit more suburban, but I’ve gotten to handle a few, feed them, and I even got to release a rehabbed owl at our house on my wife’s birthday! Our open house is the end of May, and I was supposed to get to hold one of our educational owls for 2 whole days and how it to people and teach them about it, but they sadly both passed of old age over the winter! 😢 I’ve gotten 2 life sized plushes that are fairly anatomically accurate I will be weighting to bring them up to realistic weight for our state’s 2 most common owls, so people will be able to hold a realistic facsimile since people aren’t allowed to touch our animals, and I also made 8 life sized cutouts that one of our artists is painting for me so people can see all the owls of our state together in one place. I’ll add pics in a moment of what I have so far.
I do not believe I am on the spectrum, I think I just love learning, but as it’s a spectrum, who the heck knows. I’m at an age before diagnosing these things was a regular thing if it wasn’t severe. My lifelong best friend is totally what was formally known as Aspergers, I think it’s just properly called Autism Spectrum Disorder nowadays, and after learning about it, I feel it benefit him to not be labeled something like that back in the 80s when we were kids and it still seemed heavily stigmatized, because now he’s a college science professor, head of the science dept, and is debating becoming dean of the school. I don’t think that would have happened if he got shuffled off to special classes back in our day. I’ve just always been bookish, fairly introverted, and had a lifelong love of learning. I don’t feel anything inherent about me has ever given me issue to the point I’d be diagnosed with something, but autism doesn’t seem to be looked at the way it was decades ago. I love hearing people talk about their passions, so it doesn’t matter to me if someone is on the spectrum or not.
This reply looks long so I’m going to shut up now and find you some of my project pictures.

Templates to make my wood cutouts and to give the painter references.

Finished cutouts

Plushies next to their respective cutouts. The small Screech is larger, so she will be weighted as a female, and the Great Horned is a little small, so he’ll be weighted to be a male.

First 4 painted by our artist. Exceeded my expectations!
Those are awesome! I bet getting to work with raptors/owls is so interesting, kudos for finding a passion! We really do have some cool people around here
It’s really satisfying to both learn about our local wildlife, and also to see so many caring people all in one place while it feels like the world is going to hell. It has really made me appreciate my community and local environment.
The owls are beautiful and amazing, but they are also kinda the biggest a-hole cats you’ve ever met. The hawks and corvids are more “fun” since they are often curious and a bit more interactive with me in positive ways. We also have a wild bald eagle right now in addition to our ambassador bald eagle, and they are just undeniably impressive creatures to see up close. I’m also constantly surprised to see animals come in that I didn’t even know lived in this part of the country. We had a Brown Thrasher, which is apparently called the Eastern Roadrunner because it runs around a lot on the ground. We also sometimes get minks and beavers from the very southern part of our county. With us being mainly suburban, I don’t think of these guys still being so close to us. And there’s tons of more somewhat ordinary animals like kinds of frogs and turtles I’ve never previously learned about.
This is a Diamondback Terrapin that prefers our one sink to the turtle tanks, so they called her Sadie Sink. The photo doesn’t do her justice! The patterns on her skin and shell are so amazing!

I tend not to recognize your username, because I’m bad at names, but I do always recognize superb owls. Keep it up! (You know, if you want to, I’m not your boss.)
I’m here to get attention for the owls, not myself, or I would have picked a better name. 😄
I just want to teach people how great they are so you all want to donate to and volunteer at your local animal rescues.
For me, one of the great things about this general style of “News Aggregation” social media is that it’s community/topic focused rather than being focused on individual personalities/identities. So, in that respect, I really don’t notice or pay attention to the usernames, aside from blocking/filtering out all the crumby people that make this place a much worse experience for me. Out of sight, out of mind, so I couldn’t even tell you who those people are.
aside from blocking/filtering out all the crumby people
I find that so strange. I never have blocked anyone on any platform and I have been doing that chat with people for a really long time. Like back in the bbs days. I have never found it necessary, and often find that I disagree with someone on one thing, only to find we have common interests elsewhere.
I see people say they block people a lot, but why would you do it? Does it really matter? Do you not simply skip over what is not interesting to you?
I’m probably just really good at identifying bad online behavior with people who will never ever contribute anything of value to me or the platform. If all they’re ever going to do is bring negativity and bad vibes, it actually saves me time in the long run to filter them out so I can focus on the actual decent people.
Oh man, lots. Ada, Kolanki, WorldsDumbestMan, SatansMaggottyCumFart, Neidu, LadyButterfly, CaptainLezbian, CptAggravated, that one guy with the Chinese symbols whose mom is a piece of work, Stamets when he’s posting, Sunshine, Blaze, DistantSounds, Sodalite - the list goes on and on.
I may spend too much time here, lol.
I use voyager and don’t see display names, but I’m willing to bet the person with a Chinese display name and shitty parents is @DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works
Clearly I also spend too much time on here lol
xD
Since I got summoned by a @ , gonna infodump cuz why not lol:
Funny enough now that my mom went to China for a 1-month visit, and now it’s like 1 week in and I feel so sad about her absense from home…
The house feels so much more depressing… :/
I mean I guess this is a sort of “trial run” of what her eventual death would feel like…
Like… now I can call her… cuz now its just separated by an ocean, in this era, we have instantaneous communications…
someday it’ll be separated by a barrier between the mortal realm and… whatever world beyond… the afterlife… spirit realm… or whatever…
I guess this is what my mom meant when she said she wanted to get married give birth to children… this same emptiness that I’m feeling…
I might never find love in life :(
Funny enough my older brother is also in China right now because mom pressured him to do marriage 🤣
(My parents are arranged marriage btw)
oof, that’s a bad hit buddy. love is one of those things where the more intention you put into looking for it the harder it is to find, other than arranged marriage. honestly if you’re that worried about it though, have you considered going that route?
also crazy you’re missing your mom that bad despite her abuse but I definitely get it. i was living with my dad for a while and he was moving out and I was staying and I couldn’t fucking wait for him to be gone up until the moment he was leaving I started crying really bad… did not understand those emotions at all but I often don’t.
hang in there ❤️
Oh remember you too, but idk what to do about your issues :/
I have minimum good advice besides patience is a virtue.

Yep, that’d be them! Always forget your display name and user id can be different (know there’s someone who uses this to hilarious [to giant nerds like me] effect by having it be [x]@threads.com or something)
Oh hey I’m being recognized. I definitely spend too much time here. Also my teachers may have been right when I was growing up, I really don’t know how to shut up.
For what it’s worth, the recognition is “they seem to have a good head on their shoulders”
I also recognize a lot of those, damn lol
