She’s one incredible owl!

Putting a dimmer switch in the bathroom has probably been the best cheap quality of life upgrade ever.

I have it set so when pushed all the way down is just enough voltage to turn the LED bulbs on, not fully off, so there’s no guesswork where to set it when stumbling in during the night or first thing in the AM.

Have it dimmed real low while showering and getting ready for bed to get my eyes used to the dark, flip it all the way down as I leave, and then as I wake up in the AM I can bump it up a little to gradually wake me up. Life changing!

I need to get back into it. After doing it for a couple months, my flexibility and range of motion was really increased.

Some positions are hard and it can be discouraging at first, which is what made my SO quit doing it with me, but if you stick with it you can really start to notice progress.

I used the Down Dog app which is really customizable and it goes on sale for Black Friday for $20/yr instead of the normal $100/yr or $13/mo. It comes as a whole suite of apps but I haven’t used the others besides the meditation one much. I want to try the Pilates one too if I can get off my butt.

I always want to give the people their credit, and I try not to include anything where I can’t verify a source.

I want you guys to know I’m doing my best to give you factual info, and to highlight the creators so you can find more of them if you want. A number of them will sell prints, or lead photography tours and ask kinds of stuff you may be interested in.

A lot of time has to go into getting these photos, especially of the rare owls.

I’d have to have this one in my top 10. It really can look on fire (in a good way) in the right photos. Just such perfect color and texture.

More owls should flamulate!

I snagged one of those at a gas station heading home from Tennessee and it was really good!

The first year is very tough on wild animals. And we don’t help much as a whole, removing leaves and dead trees and other things animals use for homes, chemicals and poisons, hazardous structures like netting and windows, and of course cars.

I’m hoping this wise owl passed along a lot of good instincts over the last 2 decades. It’s very impressive what she has accomplished.

So, I saw this picture is new today, and this is the same tree, so these are likely from the same shoot.

The vole pass, male flies in, passes the vole to female, then she feeds the chicks.

So it looks like this is Mr LEO dropping off dinner for Mom and the kids.

I went back and checked my old post about climate change affecting nest boxes, and the species they were talking about doing poorly in their nest boxes in British Columbia were Barn Owls also.

Perhaps either the owls, their food, their babies, or all the above are more sensitive to temperature change than other species.

I’m curious as to what the cause is. Are they not laying at all? Are they eating the eggs because they need more food? Is there some kind of new stressor? Is this a sudden drop in numbers or has it been gradual over the last few seasons?

We can still learn important data, even if it isn’t fun stuff. It may help other animals in the future if things can be addressed proactively, for example.
