For years, the dangerous rhetoric has been out of control. And things are turning violent.
Agreed, it’s not some cult thing, Altman just forgot some people are not living in silicon valley’s imaginary fantasy with its own rules, some people take your actual words seriously as applied to the actual world and react to them accordingly.
You can dismiss Altman as unserious and assume humanity should do nothing. Or you can take the tech CEOs at their word that the tech they’re building could end the world. Which leaves you with the question of what you can do about that.
After OpenAI’s ChatGPT burst onto the scene in late 2022, it wasn’t long before mainstream America started hearing about the warnings. Executives at the top AI companies told us that they were building a radical new technology that posed imminent risks to society. And it wasn’t just about digital security. AI had the power to destroy the entire world.
From the jump, it was clear that these warnings were as much a sales tactic as they were an earnest prediction of how AI would behave and the ripple effects it would create. AI execs even testified in Congress to tell us how scary it all was, practically begging for regulation, all while hawking their wares to the government. Now, those execs are the ones telling everyone to calm down.
If you think that physically attacking Sam Altman is necessary to stop AI from taking over you have been listening to too much Sam Altman.
Maybe he is just a massive asshole that made a lot of enemies
Nah, this is clearly a classic case of a Cult Leader being attacked by their own followers after the cult becomes too delusional to remain coherent.
There exists the Cult Belief Horizon where the most dangerous people reside right on the edge of it who still wholeheartedly believe in the Cult just not its Leader.
Those are the people who will bother trying to hurt this loser scammer, but it will do no one any good except AI company stockholders (fear is the ideal motivator of value).
Sam Altman is, like it or not, a lightning rod for all the other issues that the products he’s trying to sell are inducing.
Every thing you’ve ever written, every thought you’ve ever expressed is being stolen from you, right now. Its the same cluster of assholes.
you prescribe assumed intentions on to a certain behavior but fail to consider people think differently to you.
Sam Altman and other techbros are one of the things wrong with the world right now.
