Some of it can be pretty funny like the Prince Andrew one. Ok i think this is the only funny one.

Guilt. The only thing that can be read from body language is guilt, because the cops use this as an excuse to violate rights. In this country an alarming percentage of police departments at some point employed a “police psychic” and all of them employ “police dogs” which are all just things they can pretend are objective.

Omg someme else noticed how horrible those crime vids are? I thought I was the only one.

Fucks me off. “Evil teens” my ass. Teens can’t be evil, they’re just kids, fuck off. They don’t even know what they’re doing half the time.

True crime stuff always has this really fucked “some people are born bad” energy to it. Treating people who commit crimes like they were born criminals, and the world would be better off if they were locked in prison (or worse) before they could walk.

I think there are certainly monstrous people (see Thompson and Venables) but these are such rare cases and true crime channels make it look like the norm. It creates paranoia. Some of my relatives think if you let your child go outside alone even for a second they’ll be kidnapped and murdered. They also think porn and drugs are responsible for such an “increase” in crime when in reality its probably that crime reporting in the way it’s currently done wasnt a thing before 80s

Its not just true crime channels but also the news.

Early True Crime was kind of interesting. They were kind of like mysteries and added interesting insights into the mindset of various criminals. Then they became popular and a bunch of podcasts and Youtube channels popped off with sensationalist headlines and videos. Most of them have a pro-cop angle that’s frustrating.

Looking into True Crime turned me further away from trusting law enforcement. The number of cases where the police do absolutely nothing (like Jeffrey Dahmer) or mock the victim before brushing them off (Brandon Teena) will kill anyone’s blind devotion to law enforcement. At least it did for me.

I was watching this earlier today and feel really validated because I talked to past people I knew about how fucked this stuff is before and they kind of just brushed me off. but like seriously the whole body language experts are like very infuriating, and I hate them, especially channels like JCS. but its also frustrating to since like, going to body language, like people have misread my body language before, and if it was up to these “experts” they would think im guilty of something because im not acting “normal” whatever “normal” is

but like anyways it’s really cool to see big joel cover this kind of briefly

Normies don’t think about this shit. It’s only vaguely related but I remember talking about 50 First Dates with my coworkers and I was the only one talking about it from the horror film angle. Apparently nobody else shudders when they think of waking up inexplicably 8 months pregnant with Adam Sandler’s child.

Yeah. I regard “reality TV” in the same way. Instead of being some kind of study of “natural” human behavior or whatever shit, it’s creating the conditions the producers want by creating the social and material conditions in which people interact. And usually the narrative they create with this is the most cynical, pessimistic, narcissistic version of humanity possible. And that’s not even getting into whether some are scripted, the selection process they use for the participants, the contracts they sign as a condition of participation, etc. So IMO “reality” is the most fictional of the genres, because at least most others are up-front and honest about the fictional nature of their stories.

I always get a gross feeling when I come across any true crime stuff. I feel like most of it is just scare mongering to get people panicking about murderers etc to support more police funding. Copaganda via another route.
