Arc Raiders is redefining the extraction shooter after a successful 2025 launch. We sat down with Embark Studios’ Art Director Robert Sammelin to discuss the art style of the game, how Embark implements player feedback, and what the future holds in store for @ARCRaidersGame.

At 08:45 Section is titled Tracking player behaviour

    • Embark have never publicly confirmed this, but [Robert Sammelin] hinted our suspicions were correct.
    • It is… Without going into excruciating details… It is… It is quite complex. So we do… uhm… analyse behaviour and match accordingly
    • You can’t say any more?
    • No (smile and laugh) […] We got some figures on how many people have even downed another player and they were surprisingly low as sort of a large scale, but there’s also quite a different experience in playing with a squad or solo that we see this […] There’s difference in between and I think that also opens up for a very kind of different experience depending on how you choose to engage with the game from the get-go. Of course, data is great. The amount that we get from telemetry is really helpful in finding out what we should be addressing or tweaking or tuning, and pairing it up with sort of internal assumptions. I mean it’s invaluable when it comes to tuning and balancing because that’s something that we will keep doing continuously

Bit of a sensational title in my opinion because Sammelin talks more about them receiving data from how players behave, rather than confirming this data is used for matchmaking

Giving players exact information about matchmaking as a developer especially as it pertains to player in-game behavior has the unintentional knock-on effect of modulating player behavior (see: Game Theory)

Counterpoint: For instance, take a min-maxer rat, if he’s told knocking a raider is -0.5 karma and killing them is -1.0 karma, he or she will quickly adapt to using lure grenades and snitch grenades to get ARC to kill players to avoid the karma loss, to be put into lobbies with “easy prey.”

Counter counter point: there’s an achievement for killing other players with snitch scanners and one for making arc shoot each other with lure grenades, so they can probably factor that in

Counter counter counter point: those achievements don’t even work :C

My brother Isn’t a Arc raiders killer but he told me that if someone shoots first and he.takes them down, he will not knock them out for fears of getting his matchmaking manipulated to be for PvP focused.

And I thought he was a mad man
