I saw something that it only works if the character was in a book that hasn’t had a movie adaptation yet. In the Shawshank Redemption, “Red” was originally a white irishman. But because bigots don’t read books, it didn’t upset anyone when Morgan Freeman played him.
You know I don’t care but it ever only happens one way. If they just choose the best person for the role there should be some white people who are best. And I don’t mean these from comic books. I mean fables and tales like the little mermaid is a white or black Mulan a none polynesian Muai. Or how about race switching a real person like an Asian playing Roasa Parks. Since they did get a black woman to play Anne Boleyn who was a real person.
And if we want to represent more diverse people in the film industry whey retell the same stories, it seems kind of odd to just swap a character and say diversity. Why not tell some of their stories.

I love that they throw in the “because I’m Irish” in the movie.
