Its really not ridiculous. Imagine if the west still kept all its african colonies that were captured during WW2 times. Thats what Israel is, only that it is even younger. Basically all of its jewish population is either first or second generation immigrants/settlers.

As a consequence Israels population has grown 900% since its inception and that growth has only been accelerating. The vast majority of Israelis are not refugees, they are religiously attracted. The official plan of the settlers is to colonize the entire region including Lebanon, the West Bank and parts of Syria.
People really need to understand that this crisis is entirely manufactured and intended. The only solution is the dissolution of the Israeli government and a complete change of course. The Israeli population will never do that, because they support the genocide so that only leaves heavy sanctions on Israel or invasion.

If you wanna understand more about how they get so many young people to move to Israel (especially from the US) i recommend this documentary that talks a lot about Israels “outreach programs” (read ideological/military recruitment programs) that embed themselves into schools and universities to intercept jewish kids before they make any contact with people critical of Israel.

The difference is that there are quite a lot of Palestinians alive today who had their homes stolen, and Israel keeps stealing more everyday. And they do it because they have always been allowed to keep what they stole in the past.
