That headline is terrible…
People have claimed that it last for months and causes them to adopt a new life, but even those claims are very very rare and often someone who ran away from their old life.
A real fugue state would be something like “highway hypnosis” where you’re doing a repetitive activity and your brain just decides it can handle it on autopilot.
There’s definitely a lot of “think horses, not zebras” that’s called for with these stories.
