A French court has found far-right leader Marine Le Pen guilty of misusing EU funds to pay staff from her National Rally party between 2004 and 2016 and followed up the verdict on Monday with a sentence barring her from running for office immediately, possibly dashing her political ambitions of standing in the next presidential race.

Funnily enough, they keep complaining that French justice is too lax. But now that they’ve been convicted (by a law they partly wrote and voted for) it’s unfair and undemocratic. Fuck them

No because we’re way too lenient with those people. I’m hoping the AfD as a whole gets banned during the next administration but I kinda doubt they’ll go through with it.

Although she can appeal the verdict, such a move won’t suspend her ineligibility, which could rule her out of France’s 2027 presidential race.

    Yes.

    French fascist, go fuck yourself!

The other two are also not so much in jail, as it is that she’s forced to wear an ankle bracelet, as per your link.

    The Kremlin response:

    https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/marine-le-pen-updates-french-far-right-leader-banned-public-office-2025-03-31/

Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin’s spokesperson, in response to Marine Le Pen’s verdict:

“Well, indeed, more and more European capitals are going down the path of trampling over democratic norms. Of course, we do not want to interfere in France’s internal affairs, we have never done so, and this is France’s internal affair.”

“But in general, our observations of European capitals show that they are not at all reluctant to go beyond democracy during the political process.”

Justice works in mysterious ways, doesn’t it?

She complained about the European Union ad nauseam and here we find out that she was part of the problem. Serves her right! Get fucked.

That was the point for them, they were shitting on EU openly, stealing money from EU for the benefit of their party was how they showed their contempt for the institution. They even supported leaving the Euro zone, until they found out they couldn’t win the presidential election like this and became more nuanced on EU and refocused on immigration. Turns out French justice doesn’t forget.
