Is there anyone here technologically savy enough to, say, harvest IP addresses for reddit accounts?
In light of the recent authoritarian takeover on reddit I’m seeing more and more brazen nazis openly advocating their nazi ideology in every subreddit including fednews and other communities directly tied to the suffering being caused.
I want to create a register and publicly expose these people who are out here openly advocating for destroying communities, defunding social programs, and dismantling agencies whose sole function was to improve the lives of those without the means to do so.
I know, I know, “it’s wrong to doxx people” but honestly, are nazis people? If the gas chambers start getting filled are those who say “it’s just a vote you can’t hate people for their votes” going to be held accountable or are they just going to get to watch comfortably as their choices kill millions?
I say we don’t let them get the chance to see it. I say we start plastering the names and faces of the people behind these accounts all over social media, linking to their accounts, and highlighting their comments for posterity. These people are disgusting, and I’m sick of seeing it go unpunished. We, the people, need to make it impossible for fascists to congregate or spread their ideas online anymore. Out them, make them feel threatened, make them afraid of who might be coming.
I don’t know enough about internet protocols to be able to functionally perform these tasks alone without my Google history becoming an instant red flag. If there are any fine comrades with this knowledge who would be willing to either teach it to others or join in would be greatly appreciated. If there’s a real appetite for this we could create a new community specifically for organizing the efforts and directing resources towards the worst offenders.
Thanks for taking the time to consider. If there are better communities for this post or this is not the right space for it please let me know where I should direct this proposition for the best results. Love you <3
You will not be able to pull any of that sort of information as a regular user off of a site like reddit. You would at the very least need moderator access if not administrator access.
This was my main concern when I started thinking about it in practice. I guess we need anonymous or some professional hacking group to break open the reddit servers to get into that stuff. Hopeful as I may be I don’t think they’ll hear this.
It would be easier to just find nazi comments on social media where people use their real names and faces, like Facebook. I keep track of which businesses hire the bigots and never shop/eat there. Voting with your wallet and all.
I would also note that people will reuse their email addresses, usernames, etc all over the place, and will connect their real name to that username in some cases.
See recent “proud black Nazi” Mark Robinson.
Right this should be a no brainer.
If there isn’t already a Facebook group putting people on blast for openly advocating fascist white supremacist positions with their ACTUAL IRL NAMES AND FACE attached to it and ruining their lives idk how could we hope to make a dent taking out the sewer rats forum sliding on reddit.
I quit fb in like 2017 so it never even comes to mind. (Imo if you’re still on Facebook you’re already complicit, but I can’t deny that it gives you access to the masses.) Maybe a Herman-Cain-award-esque group for outing fascists would gain traction. We can foment unrest by showing boomers what their kids are doing under their nose.
Idk. I’m just spitballing. Trying to convince myself that individual militant activity is not going to move the needle until there is a critical mass of social upheaval over the conditions. Considering this as a vision board to create that opportunity.
Creating a database of nazis, publishing it, and harassing them seems like a great way to get sent to guantanamo, regardless of whether it’s actually legal or not.
From my understanding of lemmy.dbzer0.com does not allow doxxing / public shaming of other users of the fediverse. But I could be wrong.
Tips for this kind of research: you might be able to connect different profiles of the same users on the same / different platforms by checking if they share a user name or a post history. To find more personal information on users you can check if the platforms in question had data breaches and if there is any public version of said breach.
Here is a high profile doxxing (Stonetoss) example that used these or similar techniques.
You’d be better off studying the psychology of social influence.
Or, just dismantle reddit entirely, since they’ve proven to be fascists.
