Great list… but make it more obvious that there’s a Canadian list. With such a busy graphic some people, like myself, might initially mistake the graphic at one list instead of 2.

Sorry for posting here but I couldn’t comment on the .ca link.

Yes I can see your point, and you’re not the first one to mention this. I’ve updated the infographic.

This is why I had placed the CBC Radio Canada at the top, with the hope that people would stop and think for a moment.

I’ll try to make it better, but I’m prioritizing information density and just to be more informative than the other one.

If it really bothers you that much, you can also take the content, and change it yourself, as the infographic is licensed under CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0.

What the fuck are you saying LaPresse and LeDevoir are American owned??? That’s not true at all!

LaPresse is owned by the non-profit LaPresse Inc. It’s completely independant!

And Le Devoir is owned by Le Devoir Inc. A completely 100% Québécois company. They are also 100% independant. (And pro-independance 😉)

Please fix that image because it’s not factual at all.

    EDIT: I NEED GLASSES FFS!

I didn’t see there were two sides where one was for “Canadian owned”. My bad…

It’s okay, you’re not the first one. I was trying to prioritize information density, and unfortunately this will be an unwanted side effect.

I’ve made some changes in the meanwhile to lessen the chances of this confusion happening, but I don’t think it’ll be avoided entirely.

I wanted to avoid highlighting for profit media, because of the relative ease of being acquired (as many already have by Americans).

These non profit media outlets will remain so long as they have an audience.

Ya know, if it’s not in line with your thinking.

I appreciate the gesture, but you do raise an important point, that Reuters, despite being Canadian, was not included.

I believe in a healthy democracy, we must allow for discussion, even if it is unflattering (unless it’s hurting someone), therefore you should do as you please.

APTN is worth including on the right side there eh. It’s a national network.

Edit: OK let me elaborate my case.

    • The Aboriginal Peoples Television Network is a nonprofit organization out of Winnipeg with the same kind of license and mandate as CBC.
    • Broadcast over the air in a few places but on all cable carriers, usually up above ch.60 or so.
    • Available streaming through apps on various platforms also.
    • Low budget and focused on the issues of indigenous folks, it nevertheless is important to settler Canadians in rounding out the picture of what’s actually going on in Canada, as these issues are often underrepresented in ’settler’ media, not just due to cultural orientation, but because a lot of the news is about rural regions.
    • APTN is an important part of me being Canadian, even as a settler, as we all reconcile at the end of a long-running genocide. This differentiates us from the USA.

A big shout out to CHEK TV out of Victoria, fully employee owned and community oriented. News and some investigative long form segments. Free streaming, can watch livestream and shorts as a guest. Apps available for various platforms. Not totally parochial and sometimes very good.

You may attract more support if your active goals are actually stated where you proclaim they are.

If you truly believe a comment is breaking the rules (e.g. off topic), then report it. Let the mods decide.

It’s better that I spread the word on proportional representation, which would actually help Canada, rather than spewing nonsense, or trying to get people to give me money

There’s a simple solution, just ignore me. But given the fact that you’re seeing my content, means it’s not being downvoted but upvoted, meaning people actually value my content. Blame the game, not the player.

I apologized if you find my content annoying, but that’s not the general case, and overall I think you agree that proportional representation is beneficial, so keep that in mind.

Just because it’s popular, doesn’t mean it’s following the rules. Just look south of the boarder.

You’re more than welcome to report since they’re not the only mod and it’s helpful to have a record of it.

I’m seeing most of their comments linking that sub in !canada@lemmy.ca and other communities. In this community, they’re active and it makes up a somewhat small and infrequent amount of their comments, so I wouldn’t consider it spam personally.

But if we get reports from more people and the community has a problem with it then I’m happy to have a conversation about limiting or removing those types of comments.

Yes, I’m sure a report will be taken seriously…

I am honestly acting in good faith and taking you seriously right now. If I instead promoted donated money to me directly (which could also be in the same vein of being unrelated discussion), would you have a problem with that? Probably not, but when it’s a cause that actually helps Canada (even if it’s annoying), then it’s a problem? In either case, both (promoting self interests, or proportional representation) would be as obtrusive – which is not much at all.

Just because it’s popular, doesn’t mean it’s following the rules.

I never suggested popular means following the rules. The point I was making is that while you don’t appreciate my content, many others do, so please know that you’re not the only person that exists on this community.
