Summary
El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele has offered to house convicted criminals from U.S. prisons, including U.S. citizens, in exchange for a fee.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed gratitude, calling it an unprecedented act of friendship.
El Salvador will also accept deported migrants of any nationality who have criminal records.
Bukele’s tough anti-gang policies have drastically reduced crime but drawn human rights concerns.
