Think of it like a video game HUD where there’s just text floating above a person’s head where you see all their political beliefs, including the degree of bigotry (if any), or whether or not the person believes in the use of violence to acheive polical goals, basically every little detail that would accurately depict people’s political beliefs. Your beliefs are also visible to others. This effect has 1KM radius, including people above and below you.

So, how fucked are you?

(Think of all the authorities in your area that can see your beliefs, including the beliefs regarding the recent incident…)

People have signs on their front lawn showing who they support. In a way, your hypothetical has been happening for decades. A lot of people don’t hide who they vote for.

Oh, everybody can already see that. I’m a man in my 30s and I still wear my punk vest everywhere. My feelings on cops, Nazis, and fascists are made pretty clear on it, while anyone who recognizes basic anarchist emblems will see those too. It doesn’t do a perfect 1:1 job of communicating my beliefs, but I’m more open and specific with what I believe than any coward in a red hat

I’m homeless and unemployed by the end of the day and have to flee the state. Both my landlord and general manager are hardcore MAGAts, and I live in a small, remote town in a very red state. It would genuinely not be safe for my politics to be known.

I’m pretty fucked. First of all it’s going to be several paragraphs because I don’t neatly fit an ideology and then there’s something to piss off every group.

I’m fine. I live in Canada, and I’m not a fascist, Nazi, (colour) supremacist, or anything.

I just lean to the left and appreciate public/social services; which is slightly “communist” but not “authoritarian Nazi” Communist. No no, you should be free to live how you want, work in whatever field you want, eat the food you like, love who you wanna love, and live how and where you want to live. I’m just in favor of things like, not bankrupting someone because they got pneumonia and had to go to the hospital for a day; also fire departments, schools, employment insurance (social/government), streets and roads, parks, sidewalks, community centers… You know, stuff that everyone owns, but nobody “owns”? Stuff we all can use without having to pay for it.

I’m also in favor of UBI, but I realize that UBI may not happen anytime soon, maybe not in my lifetime. I hope it happens eventually (or at do away with fiat currency), for the good of the people, but I recognize the fight is difficult to win.

Idk, how far is that in “freedom units”? Probably fine, the bigots are too far away to get mad at me.

Not fucked at all. I agree with my beliefs, and I’m tired of being misunderstood. Having them be visible would be vindicating. I just want to be friends with everyone at the end of the day.

Florida here. Had a Bernie bumper sticker from the early days of his campaign til the end of Trump’s admin. Only ever incited two interactions, both were physical threats.

So, it probably wouldn’t go well.

I’ll be fine, I don’t lie about my beliefs, and it’s pretty 50 50 here. I’m pretty sure I have some family members that would be sweating about it though.

Every little detail would probably cause some issues. Someone walking around here “advertising” racism would have some real problems as where I live is very mixed. There are probably a lot of people riding the edge of violence for a multitude of reasons, assumed rage over politics-based slights absolutely being one of them. I don’t think I’d have too many personal problems, considering my “hard-left” leanings revolve around trying to make lives better for everyone.

Might help if you got within a km of a politician, you could tell pretty quick how full of shit they were. There’d be some serious upheaval, I think.

Why does everybody think that so many people will just straight up murder everybody who doesn’t share their politics?

Also why would they come for you if you are progessive and leftist? I think, here in Greece at least, it’s far more likely people to be against you if you are a fascist. And I dont think Greece is much of a progressive country.🤷

And besides all that, I think it’s kinda easy to get a rough idea of people’s beliefs anyways.

Because most people on Lemmy secretly (or not secretly) wish they could murder everyone who doesn’t share their politics and are projecting this on other people.

I was sitting in the break room where I used to work and three supervisors were talking about the gun one is them had just bought and was going through the waiting period to pick it up. One of the said he should go into Chicago and shoot liberals with it and they all agreed about it adding to what he should do etc. These are fairly average people too. This was years ago, things have only gotten worse.

Because some of us have lived in places in the US where that’s pretty much been said and demonstrated before.

If you don’t feel that way, consider yourself lucky to have never lived in extremely intolerant areas of the states that use violence against people who think, look, or behave differently.

Edit: Amazing. The people down voting this and other sentiments choose to live in their own little bubble and have never been to parts of the US where this is true. Keep believing what you want to believe then.
