Remember when redditors were stroking their dicks over the possibility of the three gorges dam in China breaking and killing thousands?
Gee I wonder if your average Chinese netizen is gloating over this happening to burgers?
It’s all but guaranteed. We spent ages making things with tolerances that could, for instance, sustain a once in a century storm. Which makes sense and was a good idea at the time.
What we did not do is make things that could be hit by such events consecutively year after year.
In addition a lot of the maintenance (or god forbid upgrading) has been deferred for decades.
