The previous one by The Black Company was too wide to defend against Italy. Let’s make this one! I know LEMMY.ML is not the full Lemmyverse but we don’t have space for JOIN-LEMMY.ORG now.

To use its template, install the r/place userscript (guide) and go to https://new.reddit.com/r/place/?jsontemplate=https%3A%2F%2Fraw.githubusercontent.com%2FChaoticNeutralCzech%2FmyRandomImages%2Fmain%2FplaceLemmyTemplate.json&screenmode=fullscreen
or if you already have it, import one of these (either the URLencoded one in URL, or the raw one in plugin settings)

If your goal is to advertise the fediverse You should have used ‘kbin’.

People can go directly to “lemmy.ml” but the site might disappear due to Mali re-establishing ownership of .ml domains, also its run by a tankie which will upset some people.

“Lemmy” provides 10 google sponsored results and then ‘join-lemmy’, the join-lemmy website has you ‘join a server’ and then presents you lots of options.

During the first Mastodon surge one of their issues is people felt overwhelmed by the options and it hurt Mastodon adoption, so a single website does make a lot of sense. Personally I would suggest lemmy.world its a general instance and the admins aren’t linked to any extremist views, but you said that would be too long.

If you put ‘kbin’ into search the top result is kbin.social, that makes it seems like a reddit alternate. It keeps user choice limited and brings them into the fediverse. That means people aren’t confronted with the complexity of the fediverse immediately and can learn and understand it at their own pace.

So if your goal is to advertise the fediverse I would push kbin, if your goal is to specifically get people to use a Lemmy based website I don’t think you have a good option

The only thing with kbin is the lack of a mobile app. A lot of newer reddit users don’t even know there’s a website. It might be hard to convince those users to switch to kbin if it doesn’t have a mobile app.

I agree with this. There is at least five apps right now that are great for people coming from reddit, so Lemmy has that covered.

Maybe I am old but I don’t understand the NEED for a mobile application.

The kbin website works well on desktop and mobile web browsers with no render issues. The lemmy mobile apps all seem to be “alpha” quality.

Why is a buggy app better thana working website?

I choose an application or website based on which one works best. For example I browse Amazon via the web browser on the phone since the mobile application takes 2-5 seconds to load.

Wefwef is far from alpha quality, and it is a significantly better browsing experience than browser, at least on iOS, where you have to disable content blockers entirely to get comments to load if you have one installed.

I personally don’t care about Twitter like services and I think many Redditors don’t either, so kbin has some additional noise for us.

          Clearly you haven’t used Kbin.

KBin’s have two distinct views “Threads” (Reddit Style) and “Microblogs” (Twitter), the default view is “Threads”. You won’t see posts in the Thread view and you won’t see Articles/Threads in the Microblog view

Its an option similar to Top/Hot/Newest its existence doesn’t hurt

        Personally I would suggest lemmy.world

Please god no! A majority of the Lemmy population is already on that server. It’s presence on SEO and everybody’s insistence to use that server is already a problem with trying to push a federated model. The owner’s vain goal of trying to maintain the largest Lemmy server isn’t helping matters.

We’re already in a position where, if lemmy.world went down, the Lemmy federation would be in a crippled state.

Lemmy.world is by far the best experience for a new user. You can convince people to move to a new instance once they’re already on lemmy.world. Starting off in a random instance is much more confusing.

But, people won’t just move off of their instance for no reason. The general public is too stuck on the idea that Lemmy is one domain and that your account is important to keep.

Either there is a reason or there isn’t. If there’s a valid reason to move to a different instance ethen people will. If not, then what’s the harm in using lemmy.world? More importantly, people won’t move off of reddit if their initial experience with Lemmy is negative or confusing.

Please no I don’t want my instance to get overrun by reddit users :(

I mean some are cool but if we overpopulate instances they begin having issues, have we not learnt from lemmy.world and lemmy.ml having tons of issues early July?

It’s poor branding, at least if someone knows Lemmy and they see a Lemmy link, they will go to it. Lemm.ee doesn’t intuitively look like a Lemmy instance to an outsider.

lemmy.ml is even poorer branding, because the majority of newcomers who would attempt to join it will be turned down. At least on lemm.ee they would actually be able to create an account.

Hey, that’s valid. I just know space was a premium. Personally, I don’t think it’s as hard of a leap as you make it out to be. It phonetically spells out “lemmy.” I think anyone who is curious enough to warrant a search could figure it out.

That aside, you won’t find me on r/place. I want to stay off Reddit. Those that can tolerate it enough to vent their frustration and mourning while leaving a flag pointing where to go next… more power to ‘em.
