It doesnt matter if these languages are mutually intelligible or not, it helps Russia to say they are. If it helped Russia to say the languages were different then the languages are different. The truth does not matter, Russia steamrolling through Europe destroying NATO and US hegemony is all that matters. I personally call this stuff geographic determinism and I view it as a pseudoscience because a lot of it originated with the gun germs and steel book placing an overimportance on geography. Im not saying that the south wasnt the region where slavery was the most prominent, but the south was in no way more disposed to slavery because hundreds of millions of years ago plate tectonics caused there to be a ridge formed in the south that just so happened to cause rivers to end abruptly, and people built mills there, and it’s more fertile, and oh uh a bunch of whites imported actual people as slaves because the land was just so good for slavery.

Kind of veering off topic but the whole way we view nature preservation is kind of fucked. Like why are we making a place like yellowstone accessible? There shouldn’t be any tourist infrastructure, people shouldn’t be going there, expect for the indigenous people who actually own the land, most wilderness should be closed off to the public.
