I’m surprised this report isn’t being mentioned at all in the Guardian’s article. Maybe because this is more of German matter, with a report in German with results present on German broadcast going mainly against German manufacturers. Or maybe they’re making it more about fuel consumption (and consumers) than emissions.

I’m not sure about this study (can’t read any German oops), but expected vs real-life usage of PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrid) is exactly the problem brought up by T&E and others at the end of last year, see for example this report from October 2025:
The [fuel consumption and CO2 emissions] gap is mostly caused by flawed assumptions on the share of electric driving mode (the ‘utility factor’, UF) which leads to a drastic underestimate of official PHEV emissions. The UF overestimated the electric driving share, assuming 84% over 2021-2023, whereas real-world data shows this to be just 27%.
I’m not doubting at all that you outperform the expected consumption, but sadly on average it seems like there’s more of a systematic (and significant) under-performance. However, this is comparing WLTP testing to real-life driving EU data, for cars sold in the EU. I’m sure that this might be region-dependent as models and driving habits might be radically different.
EDIT: oops as mentioned by @Don_alForno@feddit.org, this seems to be more about the engine of certain manufacturers consuming more than expected in electric drive mode:
Until now it has been claimed by manufacturers that the vehicles used only a little or almost no fuel when in the electric mode. The studies showed that this was not in fact the case.
So not the same as the T&E study, and much less about usage.

I love citymapper, however it only covers a limited number of urban areas, is UK based and most importantly got bought by Via Transportation in 2023 (US based).
It seems like many city/regional operators have their own apps, this might be an option for you ?
You might also want to have a look at the apps that use transitous.org (listed on their homepage). Amongst them is cartes.app, which is a really exciting open source gmaps alternative wannabe, hosted in France (see cartes.app/roadmap for more technical details). Although it’s still a wip, they’ve made great strides recently and I’ve started using it to replace some of GMaps’ use cases. The only issue is, errrr, there’s no English interface for now :) It’s still a small team, so they’re keeping internationalisation for later.
They give the example of Tailwind CSS, who sell UI blocks/kits and templates. I think that sounds like more added value than just pay me to help you use my software.
This is already happening. Last month, Tailwinds—an open source CSS framework that helps people build websites—laid off three of its four engineers. Tailwinds is extremely popular, more popular than it’s ever been, but revenue has plunged.
Tailwinds head Adam Wathan explained why in a post on GitHub. “Traffic to our docs is down about 40% from early 2023 despite Tailwind being more popular than ever,” he said. “The docs are the only way people find out about our commercial products, and without customers we can’t afford to maintain the framework.
Even for projects that don’t advertise commercial products, I can believe that not needing to leave the chat/IDE to do anything leads to less traffic on GitHub etc, which is where the donate buttons are for ex.
To toot the Nextcloud horn and suggest a provider, I switched from GDrive to Nextcloud hosted on a Hetzner Storage Share a few months ago and it’s been smooth and fun, for 5-6€/month for 1TB (not sure how it compares, but it feels a acceptable, as GDrive was costing me 3€). Now I also have my calendar, tasks, and I’m currently migrating my bookmark managing from Raindrop. I used to share GPhoto albums with family and I’m trying this next with the Memories app.
However, it seems like there’s no solution to easily backup Whatsapp content without GDrive, but as long as there’s less than 15GB of stiff I can at least stay on Google’s free plan.

shoot, tried the game through my brother’s free epic copy and then bought it for myself thinking it was so good that I had to give it back to the studio. It was on sale for 5€, but still I feel uneasy now…
At least one advantage of epic’s shenanigans is that I’d probably never have played this game if the free giveaway had not happened.
That’s interesting, is there a way to filter only on “new reviews”? Actually, I’d expect protondb to already be doing that, given that you have to specify which proton you’re using when rating the game

pretty cool visualisation, though it’s not obvious where they get the 90% for me either. But for example if you take the Top 1000 games, 89% of them either have a plat, gold or silver medal, which sounds quite equivalent to “works on Linux”. There is an “all steam games” option, but the issue is that most games haven’t had any feedback from anyone on protondb

I’m confused, what does that mean ? Will a rocket league -like “mini game” be available in Fortnite, like some sort of crossover ? Will Fortnite have multiple main games like LoL has TFT and Clash Royale has Merge Tactics ? Or will Fortnite just become a game launcher ??
