Technology@beehaw.org•ChatGPT to start showing ads in the US
2·17 hours agoI have this scary vision where they somehow do a more or less successful IPO and gain 100 billion or more. Than this idiocy will never stop.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•We need a compilation of projects that counter neural networks
2·18 hours agoOh, you’re absolutely right. I didn’t realize that GPTs are of course an ANN variant, I always envisioned them as essentially very large and boring vector databases.
I might want to rephrase: not all neutral networks are LLMs.
I personally hate the current “AI” scam with all my heart and I’m so very aware of the extremely limited utility and unsustainable resource demands of the GPT approach. But I have no problem with the more abstract concept of neural networks per se. I expect them to be quite fundamental to any attempt at “real” AI, if we ever get past the current craze.

Turns out they absolutely are. Not all neural networks are LLMs, though.

5·1 day agoI watched the gameplay video and it was just so, so meh. I see what they were going for, but it just falls flat on so many levels. Ironically for a Bond game, it lacks style. There was such a lack of consistency, of thought, it’s like they fed various better games to an AI and this is the result. It’s all over the place.

Casual Conversation@piefed.social•So, are we going to take up arms and fight fascism or are we just gonna sit here and let it happen to us?
17·8 days agoVoting in the midterms might be challenging enough. From the Wikipedia page about elections in 1933 Germany:
The resources of big business and the state were thrown behind the Nazis’ campaign to achieve saturation coverage all over Germany. Brownshirts and SS patrolled and marched menacingly through the streets of cities and towns. A “combination of terror, repression and propaganda was mobilized in every… community, large and small, across the land”.[1]: 339 Irene von Goetz wrote, “In a decree issued on 17 February 1933, Göring ordered the Prussian police force to make unrestrained use of firearms in operations against political opponents (the so-called Schießerlass, or shooting decree)”.[4]
To ensure a Nazi majority in the vote, Nazi organisations also “monitored” the vote process. In Prussia, 50,000 members of the SS, SA and Der Stahlhelm were ordered to monitor the votes as so-called deputy sheriffs or auxiliary police (Hilfspolizei) in another decree by acting Interior Minister Hermann Göring.[4]

politics @lemmy.world•ICE just launched a “wartime recruitment” campaign and seeks agents who want to “defend” their “culture.” There will be more Renee Goods.

23·8 days agoYeah, it’s just gonna basically happen now. Things will have to turn much, much worse before a large enough number of people will be willing to risk their very existence. The US dropped democracy and it might take a long time before they get it back.

Whatever actual “AI” would look like, we can agree GPTs are not it.
