Another option is any knife with a back lock.

See @dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 's post below. I am not aware of any knife company (this is different than a retailer) marketing knives as ambidextrous that are not so.
If you’re looking for a left-hand only, Spyderco makes a couple. Example:
An ambidextrous knife, by definition, works exactly the same for right or left handers, with no compromises.
For example, any knife that uses a cross-bar style lock works exactly the same no matter what hand is holding it. The lock exists through the body of the knife and is accessible from both sides.
Thanks for the postings! I’ve been so swamped with work that I’ve not been able to do a whole lot here in a while. Good to see others finding the community.

camping@sh.itjust.works•What are your favorite seasons and places?English
3·10 days agoAutumn is by far my favorite time to camp. Summers are ok if you have lots of trees for shade. Camping in a pine forest is amazing because a layer of pine straw adds so much cushion to the ground (but not great for the rain fly as sap drips on it).
I’ve never done a true winter camp, the coldest I’ve camped in is -5 C / 23 F and that was just the low temp overnight.
Late spring would be my second choice for camping after the ground has defrosted and it’s not so muddy.
I do 90% of my camping with my kids’ Scout Troop so cast iron dutch oven meals are always high on my list. There are so many choices and some great flavorful options. We do a good chicken pot pie in a dutch oven with american biscuits (like the beef stew mentioned previously). And, of course, any sort of fruit cobbler in a dutch oven will always be a winner.
Foil packs are really great because kids (and adults) can do a choose-your-own-adventure. Want lots of veggies, you got it. Want zero veggies, you got it as well. As long as you have moisture and heat, you can get a tasty meal.

Everyday Carry. What essentials do you carry on a daily basis?@sopuli.xyz•Without posting any personal information, what's the oldest card or other thing you still keep in your wallet, pocket or purse, that you don't even need anymore?English
2·11 days agoI started working at my current company in 1999. It took them a couple days after my start date to get me an electroic swipe card to get in and out of the building. The short-term solution: a paper card with the signature from the head of HR authorizing me to get into the building and onto my floor, as nobody recognized me yet.
I still have it. I do not know why but it’s been with me ever since, moving from wallet to wallet.
I saw it coming and I still laughed. :)
I think in the Ontario line the D2 versions of the RAT retail for around $50 and the AUS 8 versions are around $40. I was surprised to see they have a RAT 1.5 in Magnacut for under $100 which, depending on heat treat, might be an amazing deal.
What terrible progress the Chinese could make overnight if only they could figure out how to apply all this know-how, all this skill, this mastery of mass production to an original design for once.
This is essentially what We/Civivi/Sencut are doing, at least from my perspective. They’re working with real designers (in addition to in-house designs) for their knives. Now, I am not a fan of their “flood the market” approach to things, but they certainly apply their manufacturing skills to make some pretty darn good knives. (This sounds very astroturf-y when I re-read it. Not intended to be that.)
Room service just sent this up. To cut the limes.
“There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of a knife buying binge.”
For my eye, order of preference is 1, 3, 2.
Not sure if you’ve looked at Vosteed at all but they have both the Parallel and the TiSlim Racoon (not to be confused with the standard Racoon) for something like $125 - $175 depending on materials both of which beat the Bugout on thinness.
Yeah it is insane.

PocketKNIFE@lemmy.world•Weird Knife Wednesday: CRKT Walker Blade Lock Model 4200English
2·2 months agoBy a strange (?) coincidence the first knife in the New Knives of the Week over on the KnifeCenter YouTube Channel is the Bladelock in 14C28N and Jade G10.

That custom is something else. It all made sense when I learned that Michael Walker was a jeweler before he was a knife maker.

Everyday Carry. What essentials do you carry on a daily basis?@sopuli.xyz•*Permanently Deleted*English
2·3 months agoThere’s not a lock, but you can adjust the tension on the thumb slide and thus cause the slide to require more force to open. There’s a video on how to do that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQ-atBnbQ7k
I don’t think it will open on its own in your pocket, but if you left-pocket carry, I can certainly see it opening accidentally when you’re putting something _into _ your pocket.

PocketKNIFE@lemmy.world•Weird Knife Wednesday: Gerber DoubledownEnglish
2·3 months agoI have a memory of someone using this at one of the Blade Show BaliComp events in the past couple years but I can’t find any video evidence of this. Maybe my knife-related Berenstain Bears moment here, who knows.
A wild product from Gerber for sure. I’m glad to see you improved it!
I start local and work my way out. Does your county have a website that shows campgrounds? How about adjacent counties? After that, I start looking at state recreation areas and parks. As I’m not too far from a state border, I look at the adjoining states as well.
In my area, most state parks that allow camping have separate areas for RV vs tent camping.

This is the Kershaw Launch Iridium (for those who may not know). This is an automatic version of the already very popular Kershaw Iridium which can be had with either a crossbar lock in both a sub-3" blade (Mini Iridium) and 3.25" blade versions or a manual button lock.
