  • I feel like people outside industry don’t appreciate this message as much as intended.

Industrial switchgears, often part of an electric apparatus that looks like a giant metal box, have lead times measured in years. The supply chain is completely fucked.

A literal CEO of a $20billion company couldn’t skip the line despite writing them a letter and begging for any price.

Companies are paying long haul truckers expedited rates to haul a 53 foot trailer with a switchgear inside, and the rest of the trailer completely empty. Just to get it 2-3 days sooner, after their 1 year wait. You cannot operate the facility without it.

It really is a huge shame when one of them gets damaged.

  • It would halve it or worse. ASUS makes a few models with built in internal batteries which work quite well.

The type that latch onto your existing laptop display are really not great. They put a huge amount of extra force on the hinge where tons of sensitive ribbon cables live and you are severely limited in viewing angle. Not to mention you can’t move the monitor around in a tight work space or disconnect it easily to hit the field.

A standalone portable monitor is the best solution IMO. The nicer models come with adjustable stands, protective travel cases, and USB-C DP pass through functionality.

The actual climate scientists have been increasingly saying their models show there’s no point to even trying while capitalism still exists, and get continuously worse every time they add recent data to the model,

…but I support, commend, and unironically respect your commitment OP. One person can absolutely make a difference to their local ecosystem assuming they have enough money and land.
