Don’t forget there was also a schism on iconography, which I think was very early on? Can’t remember exactly

World News@lemmy.world•Israel cut out of Iran deal as Trump keeps deriding Netanyahu in publicEnglish
21·9 hours agoI know you say you’re sure, but that’s more of an assumption really.
We know from her own words that she wouldn’t do anything differently than Biden. Keeping in mind that Biden silenced and censored the USAID for calling out Israeli atrocities before Trump fully dismantled it.
And here is a report that says that Israel and the US did joint bombing drills to attack Iran under Biden (in the end, the decision by Trump to attack took only a week, there definitely were drills before that).
So there were plans to attack Iran. And we haven’t seen Kamala’s actual record on militarism, but she supported the US’s involvement in international security matters and constantly affirmed “Israel’s right to defend itself”. She never said “no” to war.
We can’t say that the US would have never attacked Iran under Kamala, but we can definitely say it wouldn’t be as big of a shit show and news spectacle as it is now.

World News@lemmy.world•Netanyahu says Israel won’t leave occupied land in LebanonEnglish
4·1 day agoThere’s additional internal pressure too - Israelis just love ethnic cleansing and they want the war on Lebanon and Iran to continue.
Even the “moderate” opposition, Lapid, is calling for the continuation of the war because 1- he’d lose on votes + support if he doesn’t 2- he wants more dead children as well
Oh sweety, you’re still confused. Here, I’ll explain it slower:
Kid1 gives kid2 a baseball bat.
Kid2 beats up kid3 repeatedly.
Kid1 can take the bat away anytime, but doesn’t. Instead, he gives kid3 candy.
It doesn’t mean kid1 is doing a good job.
If you want to talk like a child, you can get treated like a child.

World News@lemmy.world•Iran says the deal to end the war with the US requires Israel to withdraw from LebanonEnglish
41·2 days agoBecause drumpf can’t reign in a rabid dog that is supposedly the US’s closest ally.
If you want to share your ignorance loudly and proudly, then you’ll get corrected.
Canada is not doing anything to stop the systemic abuse by a fascist ethnostate, and then putting a bandaid solution of throwing money at victims who will keep dying with Canadian made weapons.
If you want to boiler plate it to “they’re not doing anything and then doing something”, then you’re full of it.
Here, just to help you with some more info
Canada NOT putting sanctions on organizations that actually bankroll the settlers with YOUR taxes.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/wzo-sanctions-israel-9.7234018
But go on and keep saying how Canada is doing all it can.
That’s useless - the settlers are sanctioned from Canada. These aren’t global sanctions like those the US puts on people.
Sanctions on the country or stopping armaments from getting to Israel and then into settler hands is more effective.
But no no, you’re more informed…you looked up “Canada Israel sanctions”.
That’s a false premise argument you just made - The OP isn’t stating that money shouldn’t be sent. It’s that Canada should treat the primary issue on why the aid needs to be sent in the first place instead of support it with military armament.
Hope that helps clear it up.

121·6 days agoI can only speak about Kennan - basically his reports and telegrams from his time in Moscow convinced the US government that the USSR was expansionist and a danger to the US.
His reports were the primary driving force that led the US to have a negative attitude towards the USSR and that they needed to contain it. That basically kicked off the cold war and we continue to feel the effects of until today.
He then eventually changed his mind and became very vocal against US foreign policy towards the USSR (basically the same policies that he recommended).

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada Post announces nearly 500K addresses to lose home delivery
33·6 days agoWow, there it is…the dumbest comment I’ve read today.
Perfectly opinionated, shares a problem that’s easily solvable but blames it on Canada Post, and so moronically wrong.
🏆 Here’s your award, friend.

What is incredibly stupid is that, sure, the topic is brought up at the EU council, but then why don’t the individual states also apply sanctions?

Is there a reason for the ban? A security measure? Or just “fuck it, let’s go back to ancient times”? It doesn’t mention in the article.
