Fermion@feddit.nlto PC Master Race@lemmy.world•Is there any hope trying to fixing this cooler?English5·3 days agoThis an assembly specifically designed to spread out heat, applying heat to the pipes will just make the whole thing hot. If you did take a giant blowtorch to it and got it hot enough to soften the pipes, you’d probably dry out the pipes (potentially explosively).
Heat pipes are cold worked in the factory. The metals chosen are ductile. Adding lots of heat will only add to the problems.
I tried brass quick connect hose fittings but the ball bearings kept denting the brass and the fit got worse and worse.
I replaced them with some stainless steel quick connect fittings I found on ebay from a power washer supply place. They have held up much better. The main drawbacks are cost and the seal is non standard so you would need to stock up spares/ hope they keep selling them.
The bond angle in water is always 104.5° except in some of the more exotic pressure dependent ice phases.
Fermion@feddit.nlto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that apart from not having a car and voting, the single greatest thing you can do for the climate is simply eating less red meat.61·6 days agoSure, but it’s normalized to kgs of product. With two lattes a day, 2kg of coffee lasts me more than 2 months. 2kgs per person of beef would last many households less than a week.
If you were to normalize to average daily consumption, coffee and chocolate would be significantly lower ranked. It’s ok to keep some indulgences while focusing on higher impact reductions.

The ridges of the weave in my pants sometimes produces a vibration that is similar frequency and intensity as my phone vibrate. It totally triggers the check the phone reflex even if it happens while my phone is in my hand.

sprayexpanding foam in a finished interior space is something that I would not be comfortable to do. That stuff is so hard to contain and is permanent if it gets on anything that isn’t expendable.
Dramaworld was one of my entry points and I think it serves that purpose well.

If they’re free from a neighbor/friend and you can get more later, and the only thing you have to lose is water and effort, then give it a shot. If I were paying for them I would wait for when they are dormant in the fall/early spring.
Fermion@feddit.nlto Gardening@lemmy.world•Is it too late to plant raspberry bushes as a novice gardener?English10·10 days agoI love having raspberry bushes, but having them take over an entire yard is nightmare material. They are thorny, grow fast and choke out everything except the mulberry basal shoots. They would be near impossible to elliminate except by killing everything and starting over.
I’ll try frozen custard for good measure.
Fermion@feddit.nlto Wholesome@reddthat.com•I love this idea! Anyone see anything similar IRL?13·12 days agoTo indulge in some pedantry, the cofee isn’t hot enough to melt sugar. Instead the water vapor condenses and collects on the sugar, dissolving it.

I love the all in one concept, but this machine has made me reluctant to get one again.
There’s a GE all in one with heat pump drying that I think would be the functionality I want, but the machine is huge.
Anecdotally, I loathe my LG and am trying to figure out what to replace it with.
I have replaced the drain pump on it 5 times, because they did a terrible job designing the strainer basket, and the impeller is very fragile. It only takes a few strands of long hair to reach 3/4" past the strainer basket to tangle and break the impeller.
It’s also an all in one, but the dryer functionality was clearly designed as a bolt on afterthought. There’s no lint filter so inevitably lint builds up and choked off airflow. Then the air temp gets hot enough to melt the front boot.
When we first got the unit, our 40psi water pressure ruptured two internal hoses because lg couldn’t be bothered to use fiber reinforced hoses. Dealing with potential water damage so lg could save a few cents is not worth it.
I will actively avoid LG going forward.
You don’t drive your dumpsters down random roads in India for artistic photoshoots?
I like the random mudflap on the right side.

I have long wanted a weather forecast along route in navigation apps for long trips. Ideally you could add in stops and estimate how long you would need to wait for storms to pass over.
