But how do we deal with the other side after all of this? They’ve clearly been manipulated by Fox News and social media algorithms. They think they’re up-to-date with current events. The media manipulation in the US is staggering. I don’t see how we move forward without tearing everything down. It’s rotten from the inside out.

This is such a weird (bad) take. Companion (pet) dogs do have jobs, for a lot of us. They offer comfort through hard times, help us get outside and exercise, stay on a routine, and they ARE empathetic. When I cry, my dog knows I am upset and comes to me. She offers me empathy, even though she doesn’t understand what’s wrong. It’s not a substitute for human companionship, but it’s way better than being alone entirely.

Yes, even further than that, there is no known hallucinogen in these mushrooms. Identifying the mechanism could open up some interesting possibilities.

Side note, the onset of the effects is 12-24 hours after the ingestion of the raw or undercooked mushrooms. This delayed onset has resulted in the hypothesis that the active compound is actually a prodrug that gets converted into something else that’s psychoactive as we metabolize it.
