  • Oh, it’s a pretty straightforward, very lazy gravy! I make a roux with flour and oil, then add in broth while whisking vigorously to get rid of any clumps. Then I add a can or two of canned mushrooms and I season it with salt, pepper, soy sauce, maybe some msg, and herbs. Lots of herbs. Rosemary, sage, thyme, parsley, usually dried because that’s what we have sitting around, but I bet fresh would be even better. We also have some, like, mushroom stir fry sauce (I don’t exactly know what it is) that we found in an asian market, so I usually add some of that to get it more mushroomy.

And yeah, I’ve done fried onions on a green bean casserole. In my mind that’s different than a tater tot hot dish. I do love green bean casserole though!

  • They have this thing they call “hot dish” which is they dump green beans and cream of mushroom soup in a casserole dish and put tater tots on it.

I’ve made this! Well, a vegan equivalent with mushroom gravy I made myself. And I used frozen mixed veggies, not just green beans. Oh, and I seasoned it. And put some (vegan) cheese on it. But it was really good! Sure, it’s not something I’d serve to anyone or even admit I enjoy (except anonymously on the internet, I guess), but like, it’s almost a shepherd’s pie situation, except with tots instead of mashed potatoes. Surprisingly good for a lazy meal, and lots of leftovers!

  • I sort of agree in that I very much would like to abolish gender, I don’t think it’s a super helpful framework to have so heavily embedded in society and in how humans interact with each other. On the other hand, I’m wary of equating manhood with shittiness, because there are (a) non-shitty men and (b) people who actively choose manhood. I’m simply unwilling to say that a trans man is actively choosing to be a shitty human by virtue of choosing to be a man. That doesn’t seem right to me, there’s something drawing trans men to manhood, and I do not believe it’s as simple as wanting to be a misogynist.

  • There’s not a man alive who doesn’t think women are beneath him.

Please, we can talk about how men are shitty without saying that they are literally, all of them, to a man, irredeemable. Because that’s obviously not true, there are plenty of men who see women as their equals. Yes, there’s “male socialization” or whatever and men are often taught to be extremely shitty, but their shittiness is not a necessary part of manhood and they can be educated out of it.

In fact, I would argue that saying stuff like this, that “there’s not a man alive who doesn’t think women are beneath him” actually gives men a pass to be misogynistic assholes. If part of being a man is viewing women as lesser, then we can’t hold any man accountable when he views women as lesser. But we can hold them accountable for this, and furthermore, we need to if we ever want to build a better society.

  • I don’t know if it’s just me, but I think the updated textures look worse than the original. I looked through all the screenshots and I can’t for the life of me figure out why I’d want to play the re-remastered. The lighting is harsh, the extra detail makes every scene harder to parse and it just looks, I dunno, messy.

But, that’s the beauty of modding! People who like the updated textures and lighting of this mod can install it, and I don’t have to!

  • I’m very confused by this. She’s a billionaire, it’s actually unthinkable that there would be that much mold on her walls. That’s just like, literally impossible. Even if she doesn’t notice it, one of the people she pays to clean/cook/whatever surely would. But if this is an unedited photo (actually, hold on, maybe it’s an edited photo, that might be the explanation), then I’m struggling to see what else that could be except mold. It doesn’t look like weird wallpaper, it’s far too uneven for that.

I think I’m going to believe the photo is edited to make it look like she has mold on her walls, at least until I see a video or some more photos from slightly different angles or whatever.

Edit: Oh. A picosecond of googling has shown me this is actually her twitter profile pic? She uploaded this herself? Well there’s my theory out the window! She wouldn’t edit mold into her own photo, that doesn’t make sense. So very possibly indeed a full on billionaire has tons of mold on her walls? That makes no sense! That actively makes negative sense! I don’t understand!

  • Oh. I’ve taken psychic damage from this post. Thanks, I guess.

Let me write out some of my thoughts on this.

First, obviously Dave Rubin doesn’t believe this. This is hog slop. This is slop for hogs. This isn’t serious, by any definition of that word. No one truly thinks this. The “Ugandan Giant”? Kamala isn’t particularly large and she wouldn’t do well in pro wrestling. You can actually trace her career, because she’s been a politician for decades. But. Despite all the obvious reasons why these two people are obviously different people, there’s at least one fucking weirdo on the internet who is going to believe this stupid fucking theory and make it a cornerstone of their identity. Fuck.

  • That article is easily the funniest PITT has ever posted, I’m glad someone posted it here for all of us to laugh at collectively!

Here’s another fun fact about PITT (“Parents with Inconvenient Truths about Trans”, very funny acronym): about two years ago they decided they wanted their Wednesday posts to all come from detransitioners. That worked for maybe a month, but clearly they massively overestimated how many detransitioners would be willing to write shitty transphobic articles for their shitty transphobic newsletter. For another month or two Wednesdays just didn’t have posts, until one Wednesday it was a normal post from another shitty parent and that’s what it’s been since. They just quietly dropped Detransitioner Wednesdays because they couldn’t find people to write them. So funny.

  • First of all, your comment is pretty ableist.

Second of all, these two distinct meanings you’re seeing aren’t so distinct, so I don’t at all think it’s a misunderstanding.

For an example that sits right between the two meanings you see as distinct, we can look at my struggle to finish my PhD. I should have quit 4 years ago with a master’s. I’d be in a much better spot economically, mentally, emotionally, basically in every way that matters. Sure, finishing my PhD was not as bad as staying in an abusive relationship or smoking a ton or partying way too hard way too often, but it’s closer to that than someone who believes “quitters never win” would like to admit. There are lots of times when it’s a way better idea to just quit while you’re ahead and do something more worthwhile that will actually make your life better rather than stick with something awful just because you don’t want to be a loser and quit.
