Pretty boring tbh. In typical American fashion it’s not enough to be a story about surviving this force of nature and working around it because it ends with them “taming” a tornado by shooting rockets into at and using super absorbent materials to somehow dissipate it. There was also a side story about a land developer using storm chasers to buy up properties that have been hit by tornadoes, but it seemed weirdly muted and cut down, like it was edited out or something. You get a couple scenes of one of the storm chasers talking about making offers on property and one of the main character searching the land developer online but nothing really comes of it and they don’t mention it at all after the climax. There was the kernel of an interesting story if they had maybe delved into this capitalist taking advantage of natural disasters in order to monopolize all the land in tornado alley but they obviously didn’t go that route. All-in-all there was very little tension, even when there was a massive twister coming at them the main characters could somehow always ride it out in their modified product placement-mobile
I was also annoyed at the complete inconsistency regarding what would be thrown by a tornado and what can resist it. The same tornado dragged a streetcar across town and threw a pump jack into a water tower, but the product placement pickup truck with trailer somehow managed to resist being almost at the heart of the tornado without being catapulted hundreds of feet into the air.

Burgerbrain must use explosives and sheer ubermensch power fantasy wish fulfillment imperatives whenever possible. Anything beyond beyond their ability to control is too upsetting.
They had to be told not to shoot guns at a hurricane. It working might be wish fulfilment, but Americans shooting missiles at a tornado is 100% realistic.
Yup, no classic “man vs nature” unstoppable force that must just be coped with here! Nature is just another enemy to be subdued through violence!
I thought it was funny to see the ads for the product placement mobile when climate change would be the only explanation for the amount of tornadoes in the film. Did they ever mention climate change?
They mentioned that there was an unexplained surge in tornadoes in Tornado Alley, but the words “climate change” were never said and they never once even mentioned the concept in passing. Just a weird “once-in-a-generation” cluster of constant tornadoes with no cause, strange.
The idea of a storyline about tornado Crassus would have slapped. No wonder it got censored, would have been a cool commentary on how fucked real estate is and how it intersects with the climate crisis.
I was way more interested in the Climate Crassus story, I’m halfway convinced it was meant to be a bigger part of the film. As is it was just there to give her a reason to hang out with the tornado youtuber
It was also a very populist movie. Like, haha! Turns out the redneck YouTubers are not only ok, but they’re ethical small business owners who sell t shirts to pay for a soup stand for tornado wrecked communities, in face of BIG BAD urban tech elite corporatism-not-capitalism insurance-corporation.
The opening was such a tease, made it seem like there actually might be some tension and consequences, but we can’t have any of that now can we
I rewatched the original a while ago and it was surprisingly enjoyable. The part about dissipating a tornado with rockets is asinine because in the original they just deployed a surveillance device at the end, and the whole point was that you can’t do anything about a tornado.
Of course, every sequel has to ramp it up these days, especially if the original came out decades ago, that’s why Top Gun isn’t about pilots in training anymore, now they’re going on an Ace Combat mission against RussiaChinaIran.
