Whatever. I’ve seen him do stand-up and I think he’s funny, but it’s not like Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert or Conan O’Brien write/wrote all or even most of their own material.
Yeah I got the tone right away. It is something John Oliver would say. And there is some truth to it. I loved the Daniel O’Brien Cracked videos (like After Hours) and he works for John Oliver now. There’s some bits Oliver does that’s just so Daniel O’Brien.
I don’t think of Jon as all that funny. I listen to him for his honest and intelligent takes. He could be the least funny person in the world and I’d still listen to him.
I agree the show has mastered this technique. But counterpoint, empathize with an audience that isn’t liberal. As a leftist, I’m rarely learning from this show. But this method helps me laugh at, rather than get angry at, our enemy. Leftists need to have fun.
”Without these people, it would be painfully obvious how unfunny I really am.” - John Oliver, probably

It’s not meant as an insult - this kind of self-deprecation sounds exactly like something he would say.
Yes, because English.

This one in particular: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hk011WMM7t0
It’s kinda trippy to hear John Oliver saying stuff that’s 100% a classic Daniel O’Brien Cracked video.
Ah, gotcha.
I was with you because of the “/s” missing.
“/s” has become a crutch for people lacking critical thinking and reading comprehension skills.
What’s wrong with crutches? Lots of people need them
Pretty sure Jon Stewart was funny because of John Oliver!
I don’t think of Jon as all that funny. I listen to him for his honest and intelligent takes. He could be the least funny person in the world and I’d still listen to him.
Are you sure that’s not a quote? I can hear him say it.
HIGNFY aren’t returning my calls.
What a convoluted way to say “he’s mocking me and I don’t like it”
What a way to say “I’m illiterate”.
I agree the show has mastered this technique. But counterpoint, empathize with an audience that isn’t liberal. As a leftist, I’m rarely learning from this show. But this method helps me laugh at, rather than get angry at, our enemy. Leftists need to have fun.
you learn from the laughter at “enemies” of telecom parapolitics
Care to provide an example of a “non-sequitur or otherwise absurd metaphor”?
