So I guess we’re all good now. Recruiter messaged back saying it was a great reference.

HR rang to let me know my start date and time, and what to expect on my first day.

    It’s done.

Thank you everyone for all your help and support ❤️❤️❤️

Now I’m going to give the cat a shit load of treats, and enjoy some video games without feeling guilty because I should be applying for jobs.

It’s been a huge learning experience the last 6 months. I won’t be forgetting the lessons any time soon.

Reference has been given. Sounds like it went well! Thanks again to the poster here who was able to help me with that. Very much in their debt.

Now I’ll get a call from the recruiter later today or tomorrow which will give me the final word that we are all a go for next week.

    Fingers crossed!

Edit: I send the recruiter a text to “touch base” and she said it was a great reference!!!

Thank you to the person who gave it this morning ❤️

I’m going to pretend everything is fine for next week. HR rang me yesterday letting me know who to meet and at what time.

    Medical procedures, vomiting, death mention

This is great… I’m now vomiting liquid more frequently, cold all the time, getting dehydrated and sleeping a lot. My stomach is slowly shutting down and my doctor is telling me that I’m at risk of sudden death from malnutrition.

I’ve been trying to get a feeding tube for a while but the medical system is very slow and obstructive so I have a weird sense that I possibly might not make it.

I’m so sorry. That sounds awful. I really hope that things improve. I know it’s cliche, and easier said than done, but staying positive and hopeful can help with coping and recovering from medical issues. You can get through this. DT needs you, stay strong.

Happy Go-Live day folks! A project that should’ve taken max 3 weeks but ended up taking closer to 3 months is finally going in today. Threatened my team that if they bring up one more “Oh, BTW I just thought of X” in front of the vendor the next thing I deliver for them will be a resignation letter. I’m joking, but not really. I no longer care if we deliver the most broken thing in the world, I just want it off my damn plate.

I did not expect my lovely little trip to feature a visit to urgent care, but here we are. After vomiting all day they’ve given me anti-nausea stuff. Hopefully I can actually enjoy the rest of the trip!

Just went through the performance discussion and I still have my job. It just seems like I’ll be getting around on 1 HP at work for a while.

My biggest hope is nothing else happens any time soon as it will be too many mistakes close together. I think I’m going to work on getting out of here and at least this allows me to leave on my own terms.

I’ll take things slow and check my work more before sending it off to other people. The work from home here is great but there isn’t much scope to learn because everyone who built the stuff I work on has left.

Lets hopeI can get a 6 month run of things going smoothly to serve as a soft reset if I don’t move on before then

On the way home from tennis. I gave myself two options: 1. Take PT home and order delivery or 2. Take a cab home and make food instead. I did neither, took PT home and will make food instead of ordering in. Go me!

Update: it just arrived. I checked the tracking at 7:18 and it was still saying ready for processing so I went to the kitchen to grab some cheeky ice cream, and then there was a surprise knock on my door! Delivered at 7:21, and after double checking the tracking they’ve retroactively marked it as on board for delivery in Tullamarine at 7:12 (definitely wasn’t there before). I’m a lot more than 8 minutes from tullamarine. I’ll be honest - I jumped when I heard the knock. And yes, it came through startrack not auspost (although in my mind they’re still the same thing)

Not complaining though, that was bloody efficient. I mean look at this!

    New laptop day though!

I got an MSI Thin A15 “gaming” laptop. I specifically went with this one as it seemed to be the best at that price point and had a dedicated graphics card.

Although it’s a “gaming” laptop, I fully intend on rocking this to school. I’ll turn off the RGB keyboard, and maybe tape an apple logo over the main one (although it’s not RGB and fairly discreet) or something. It’s got a metal case and full size HDMI out + ethernet, so I don’t see why you couldn’t rock it to school. Then again I have a friend whose school only permits MacBooks, even though they aren’t school provided or managed. So I guess YMMV

Omfg the amount of bloatware on this laptop is insane! Windows really is just bloat at this point. It reminds me of when I was younger and used to have a cheap shitty Optus/Telstra phone they probably sold as a loss leader. They used to come with sooo much bloatware. Even the cheap Samsung’s used to.

But seriously. No I don’t fucking want Norton, LinkedIn, candy crush, Microsoft maps, or Facebook. God. And everything is so pushy, why can’t it be quiet bloatware.

    Open edge

    Search for chrome

“There’s no need to switch to another browser! Edge performs better.”

    Close popup

Go to the download chrome page

“Microsoft edge performs up to 3x faster than >google chrome!”

    Close popup

    Download chrome

    Open chrome

“Installer error! Failed with error code 57”

Norton popup: “we found a threat on your device! But don’t worry. We blocked it.”

I NEVER WANTED NORTON OR EDGE I JUST WANT CHROOOOOOOMEEEEEEEEEEEE. FUCK. OFF

this was also after about 15 minutes of trying to figure out how to fuck all the Microsoft garbage off and just use a local account.

    And now:

MSI Centre popup: “Have you backed up your system?”

NO I HAVEN’T BACKED UP MY FUCKING SYSTEM THERE’S NOTHING TO BACKUP YET YOU DONKEY! I HAVENT EVEN INSTALLED CHROME YET!!!

Imo, reinstall the LTSC version of windows and dual boot Mint.

Shame they didn’t get you a mac.

      And Firefox not Chrome.

Idk what LTSC is, but I think I’ve gotten rid of all the bloat now. Not really interested in Linux on this laptop. Also chrome, not Firefox.

    Anti-gratitude thread >:(

    • Friend from uni cancelled on me and the reason was because something minor came up apparently. Didn’t say what. Last time we were meant to catch up, they hadn’t even left the house and were half an hour away at the time we were supposed to meet, so I told them we can reschedule. I have cancelled on them last minute before as well, but this is not the only time they’ve done it. Time to find alternative social arrangements for this week, because I will go insane without seeing people.

I understand about the weight thing. For me, it generally works out to about 50/50 muscle and fat. Just wish getting musclier didn’t have to involve getting a belly.

I hate dropping my kids off at childcare. They cry when I leave and I feel like I’m turning my back on them. I want to have them at home but I can’t give them the attention they need and work at the same time.

I hate this performance meeting I have coming up. The way it makes me feel and it’s such a big deal over something so small. No one has been hurt and the business hasn’t even lost money. There are things I could do better but everything feels so insignificant in comparison.

It really bugs me how I never see my MIL in the morning when we’re getting the kids ready. We live in the same house and she knows the schedule, why do I never see her when we’re trying to wrangle two kids out the door before work?

I’ve gained about 10kg, after all the work and exercise I did, and have a fat belly now and I’m depressed about it. Why are cakes so nice? Why is tiramisu so damn tasty? I seem to have to exercise like a maniac in order to indulge in a miserly stingy little bit of cheesecake, which makes me even more depressed, it’s barely fucking worth it! So I’m watching my food intake, avoiding high fat and high sugar foods and I’m fucking miserable.

Instead of avoiding foods that make you happy, why don’t you try adding foods into your diet instead? I think it’s called nutrition by addition.

I am ungrateful for my heater and TV remotes being on adjacent IR channels. Not near enough to mess with the settings, just cause incessant beeping while looking for something to watch.
