May I please get an explanation of the lore behind this image? From what I understand, it crashed the site once upon a time?

The picture was originally a screenshot from a Google maps street view of DPRK with a pixelated soldier dprk-walk

A user fucked around with the image file in a text editor, IIRC, malforming it. They then tried to render it, and found it eventually did render, but took an ungodly amount of time. The image was 53kb, but something about the malformations allowed it to be technically renderable with a lot of processing, and at a resolution of 20000x36909. They then uploaded it to the site, causing pict-rs (our image renderer/cacher) to have a conniption fit, breaking image hosting for a good amount of time (don’t remember how long exactly). They confessed, gave the file to people who DMed them for it (I was one of them) and a screenshot of the render was circulated, leading to the post linked above.
