“Our resources are limited, fear is all we have” is literally Paul rationalising terrorism
But fear is the mind killer
“I will let it pass over deez nutz!” - Paul Atreides, probably
There are two kinds of dune fans.
Those who think Paul is a good guy, and those who read the second two books
He’s still not a villain, like some like to say, but definitely not the good guy we all think of when we use that term. He’s a kid who was put into a horrible situation with no good outcome. He sacrificed his humanity to try to guide the rest of humanity on the best path. Humans were just flawed because they wanted a glorious leader and they needed to learn not to trust someone with that much power.
He quite literally called it Jihad
How is dune woke? The main character is a white guy. He cares about honour, doing the right thing, being strong and self dependent even in the face of adversary. He’s also the best and get treated as the best. The women are lying bitches who can’t be trusted. The natives can’t sort their shit out and need a white savour.
The goal of Herbert’s books is exactly to denounce this, the religious savior works wonders by accomplishing the religious goals efficiently, but it turns into a nightmare as the people becomes fanatics and the leader too powerful. This second part starts at the end of the first book (around Villeneuve’s second movie), and it’s in my opinion what makes Dunes a meaningful story and not just another space Opera
Frank was extremely homo phobic as well as racist.
You see him come to terms with the former in the fourth book.
