My conservative father brought up something akin to climate change, so I raised one eyebrow and hit him with my best Jon Stewart “do go on…”, then he immediately switched gears to how it’s climate cycles and blah blah blah, I just laughed and changed the subject so he couldn’t bog me down into a political argument on my birthday.

I’m not going to watch a video for information - but to essentially agree with you, good person, I assume the general summary went from

      • “climate change isn’t real”
      • to “ok sure climate change is real but it’s not caused by humans”
      • and then next is “ok fine it was us but it’s too late to prevent it anyway”
      • followed by fiery death

But the billionaires will have built lifetime self sustaining areas and bunkers by then.

        Or…

They’ll discover immortality and be like, “come on guys, we only have one planet.”

Any minute now, they’ll be saying it’s the Apocalypse and a welcome fulfillment of Biblical prophecy (see also: Israel).

I’m glad he took a moment to specify the difference between pessimism and doomism.

I readily admit that I’m a quiet pessimist… but I also hope I’m wrong, and I still think we should do everything possible to combat climate change.
