    He was also unpopular with English academics of his time. They didn’t dispute his beliefs, just his personality.

    Also the Catholic Church at the time was the primary patron of science in Europe.

      Yeah, Galileo didn’t get in trouble for his scientific views. The church asked him to write a book explaining the arguments for and against thr Copernican model, and he took that opportunity to insult the Pope.
