This is one of those times the 日本語 makes more sense than a translation.
3 different first person pronouns were used, one popularly expressed by a demographic, thus considered gendered.
Thank you for the context. At this point I’ve read so much genderswap manga that the gendered first person pronouns don’t even register as something that people won’t understand
I similarly got confused reading the second panel in English, so I decided to investigate. Thus found it more perplexing why ExiledDestiny choose to gender「私」 at all.
