E komo mai o ʻŌlelo online!

Iʻm in 1B and am so far behind it feels intimidating. Kumu Kaliko is great and for in person classes with, probably one of the best scholars in Polynesian languages there is. Its $80 for an 8 week session and they are an incredible kumu.

I’m curious about your interest in the Hawaiian language. Are you looking to learn it for cultural reasons, or do you have a specific goal in mind, such as connecting with the local community? Understanding your motivation could lead to more effective resources or methods for your learning journey.

I stay in Mākaka, HI, which is already one of the most ethnically Hawaiian place I think in the world. Most of my friends and neighbors where I stay are ethnically Hawaiian. And local pidgin grammar is based in Hawaiian, so understanding ōlelo helps with understanding pidgin. And yes, integrating and working with the local community, but also just reading street signs, speaking it casually, also useful. Iʻm also considering maybe doing a law degree (just for fun), and if you want to read kingdom period texts, its all in ōlelo Hawaiʻi.
