Same. I haven’t been interested in retail since Legion ended. I’ve been playing Classic on and off since release. But if Blizzard succeeds with Forever, I expect that to be the difinitive way to play WoW, at least for me. Forever is looking like the version of WoW I’ve been wanting for years. As a GW2 player as well, I’m really excited about the permanent level cap and horizontal progression. I think that’s a much more sustainable philosophy for MMOs, and it keeps all of the old content relevant. My biggest gripe with WoW has always been that new expansions always obsoleted the previous ones. I could ramble forever about it but this comment is already long enough. I just have some strong opinions because I love the game so much and want to see it succeed. I’m really excited to give it another chance.

horizontal progression has its pluses and minuses. Everyone cries when world scaling happens but eventually everyone who wants to reach 60 will reach 60 and then the world is scaled to where it’s going to be. Dangerous mobs will be dangerous for everyone.

I’m coming from ESO where only recently they added difficulty modes for open world mobs. This is also seen in Ascension Adventure Mode. Anyone used to Mythic+ dungeon scaling will chafe at the idea of always encountering the same difficulty in the open world.

Genshin has a good model here. Level cap has been the same since day 1 (6 years) and the increasing difficulty comes from new types of challenges. WoW would obviously work differently, but you do gear progression until you can clear endgame, then new regions introduce new boss mechanics that you need different gear for. The old gear at the highest tier and excellent gameplay is enough to clear for like 3 years, but eventually you get powercrept and have to invest in new stuff.

Yeah, horizontal progression for sure has strengths and weaknesses. But I don’t think I’d worry about eventually everyone becoming 60. GW2 has had horizontal progression for fifteen years and their starting zones are still filled with new player characters. If done well, horizontal progression doesn’t get stale.

What’s Blizzard going to do once they shut down all of the private servers that they steal ideas from?

Every time I see Blizz’s new content drop videos, I’m crestfallen when it’s made clear that the gameplay visuals still don’t match the video’s world.

Yeah… Surely this time around they won’t turn this into a bot infested P2W experience within a year 🙄
