Last year I discovered (Sadly too late) that this community only accepts inked drawings. But I’d like to propose to open up the submissions to other mediums.
While inktober was originally made for inking, nowadays it has spread to any medium (3d, knitting, drawing, painting, etc…) and it would be nice to be able to share it here too.
Of course AI is still forbidden. That’s against the spirit of the challenge
If not, that’s totally fine! I’ll just make an alternative community for it
Hello! Thank you for your input and well-reasoned perspective; I really do value and appreciate it.
After discussing this with @sorrybookbroke@sh.itjust.works we expressed that we’d like to err on the side of inclusivity. While the idea of keeping true to the origin of Inktober and keeping things pen and ink is somewhat appealing, the exclusion that is the flipside of that mantra does leave a bad taste in the mouth. Though this community did start as strictly pen and paper only, we have, along the way, started accepting digital equivalents, which has blurred that boundary, somewhat.
I agree with your point that Inktober has grown beyond its pen-and-paper origins, into a general prompt meant to inspire creativity in any artist, regardless of medium, and perhaps it’s time to accept changes to our community’s guidelines to reflect that. So, thank you for making this post and prompting us to take another look at what our guiding principles should be.
The rules will be changed to accommodate this new perspective. As you’ve mentioned, AI will still be forbidden - art created by human hands and minds only. The only other rule will be that the submission be based on an Inktober prompt. All mediums (3D, knitting, sculpting, papercraft, drawing, painting, etc.) are welcome, provided that those first two rules are observed.
Thank you for taking the time to make this post and making this community a more inclusive one. :)
Cool! Thanks
Drawing, painting, digital equivalent are already accepted though.
Uh? Well I had my 3d art posts removed due to not being inked sketches…
Yeah 3D is not in the community list.
As I see it:
- this community is not that big, allowing other media seems a positive change.
- there is artshare which already allows all media AFAIK if the mod does not allow it as a backup plan.
Nah I’d rather have a specialized inktober community, as people who want to see/post inktober will search for an inktober community. Not art share. This is also the fediverse. If you don’t like something, fork/create an instance!
Although crossposting exist if you want to double dip
We’ll have to see what the great moderator in the cloud states.
Thank you for your input, too. It was also taken into consideration. :)
