The Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 officially opened this Friday, with the edition carrying special significance as the regional sporting event marks 100 years of history.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium, which reached full capacity with 24,500 spectators in attendance.

Organisers deployed an unprecedented technological display that included more than 1,100 drones illuminating the night sky and 30,000 LED devices installed across the stands.

The XXV edition of the games runs from 24 July to 8 August, featuring 6,200 athletes from 37 countries who will compete for medals across 40 sports and 53 disciplines.

Following the conclusion of the opening ceremony, the traditional parade of participating national delegations commenced, with Mexico leading the procession.
