I’m currently reading the book Nexus by Yuval Noah Harari (the same dude that wrote Sapiens). It’s got an interesting chapter about how outgroups have been defined in fascist societies. Things like being a scientist, or just being thought of as smart, can easily be enough to get you labeled as an “other” and persecuted.
