I didn’t want to go to the hardware store so i tried to fix the fan myself. I got it working again so now my wife will be very pleased.

First i took the complete unit from the ceiing, dissasembled and cleaned all parts. Put them back together and re-centred the spool and the rotors. After that i mounted it back to the ceiling and it works like new again. No more noise and not getting stuck anymore.

If you are that invested in fixing exhaust vents, do your kitchen one too. I guarantee is 10x worse, unless you recently replaced it. 🙄

I did something similar to fix a weird in-ceiling kitchen fan years ago. It was probably up there for 30 years and never cleaned. The black old oils were like tar. The fan wouldn’t spin, only turn slowly. I couldn’t save the motor though it was too badly cooked from the tar. I had to pull the motor and replace.

Only because its 80 years old building. Its not really even a “real” one. Its a hole in the ceiling that has a fan. Doesn’t even help with cooking because its so far away from the range. When we moved in we moved the range out from the middle of the counter-top because whoever installed it made it so there was only 1.5feet on both sides of the stove and you couldn’t prep shit in that space. Best it helps with is smoke, and I dont burn much food.

As for the range hood, naw that goes nowhere, but it throws into the ceiling.

Range hoods with a filter instead of an exhaust - I’d like to find the twat that thought that was a good idea and kick him square in the balls. Hahaha

I don’t even bother turning it on.

I fixed a sensor in my car today.

Went well. Swapped it out, cranked it up. Car starts stuttering and engine cuts out.

I think it’s the new sensor being crap.

Go inside, clean the old one and get ready to swap them back out.

The lead isn’t connected. Didn’t hook it back up.

That was the first fix I made after we bought our current house.

It was noted during the inspection that it didn’t work, so I bought a replacement. When I started to install the new one, I took the vent cover off the old one and noticed there was a 2-prong plug inside that was unplugged. Plugged that in, and the fan started working.

Apparently previous owner just didn’t like the fan or something? There’s clearly nothing wrong with it because it’s been working perfectly since I “fixed” it 7 years ago. And if/when it does go out, I’ve still got the replacement I bought way back then.

Is it anlight fan combo that its both on with one switch? I can see it being annoying for like being able to hear intruders or kids if its one of those screamer fans that drowns out all sounds. Great for pooping, not so much anything else.
