Lemmy, kbin, and PieFed rebuild Reddit as a federation of communities. NodeBB and Discourse bring old-school forums onto the same protocol. BookWyrm tracks reading without selling data, and Funkwhale and Bandwagon do the same for music. Different formats, one open protocol.

anyone able to follow anything from Discourse? pasting links into Lemmy/Mastodon doesn’t seem to be finding anything

this one works !announcements@meta.discourse.org

  discourse uses activitypub as a plugin so unless the site owner has enabled it discourse is not federated by default.
