Eh… Aside from the furry characters (and those are indeed great), it’s kind of a meh game, IMO.

Nice-looking graphically (for the most part), especially for the time period – I’ll give it that. But the gameplay itself…? Basically just ‘fetch quest simulator’, occasionally interrupted by annoying puzzles. Oh, and a super-annoying sidekick. And despite being ‘open world’ in that it lets you go wherever you want pretty much whenever you want … it’s actually very linear in its progression, with a set order you need to do things in and little ability to do things out of that prescribed order. And at that point the ‘open world’ of it all starts to just be annoying because all the fetch quests will send you running back and forth all over the map, many sections of which require repeatedly solving puzzles to get through. The few instances of combat in the game are mostly just button-mashing fests where you win by smacking them with a stick a lot, interspersed with boss fights that are often more puzzles than fights.

Now, don’t get me wrong. It’s fine. ‘Good’, even. But, no, I wouldn’t call it ‘absolutely incredible’ … or even necessarily above average. And I’d have pretty much no interest in (re)playing it if it weren’t for the characters in it.

(By the way, if you haven’t heard of Star Fox Adventures: Amethyst Edition before, you should definitely try it! It’s a fan-made mod of the game that allows you to play the entire game as Krystal! It also has a few other quality of life improvements.)
