Went to a local shaper to discuss a future board.
So, coming from windsurfing where boards don’t get damaged so easily, I just went to ask about using sandwich for my board. And the guy didn’t know anything about sandwich. He was like PVC foam make the board fragile, and called sandwich basic composite material (layers of fibers, no in between foam).
As I searched around online, the only place I found to advertise sandwich boards is jimmy lewis. https://jimmylewis.com/board-construction/
So what’s up with surfing? EPS + sandwich (sometimes double sandwich on deck) has been the go to for decades in windsurfing, as it allows the board to be way more rigid and shock resistant, protecting the core instead of squishing it directly. The weight gain is minimal (and you gain a lot by switching from PU to EPS).
I feel had by the title.
