Just as every evolution has a reason, there must be a purpose for the complex ability of consciousness to have evolved in human and animal brains. If AI can exhibit intellectual capabilities on par with humans without consciousness, then what is the purpose of consciousness?

Wild to me that someone who has thought about evolutionary processes as much as him would have such a weak take. Ray Kurzweil vibes (Kurzweil has had a weird chat bot of his dad for years).
