Janet Mills suspended her campaign for Senate on Thursday, as her progressive challenger, oyster farmer Graham Platner, continued to lead in the polls and in fundraising.

It’s a shocking fall off for the incumbent governor

Lol brutal! The current governor and dnc prefered candidate dying in the polls and fundraising (!) to a progressive oyster farmer.

The democratic party is such a stalwart architect of their own failures. I just wish they werent taking the nation down with them.

Number of times a party switched candidate after one term and stayed in office: 0

        Number of failures: 4

        That’s what they told you.

Are you genuinely trying to argue that the party should have stuck with Biden, who as polling as bad as Trump, back in 2023/24?

You might consider waiting for the shitlib mind-control chip software update to come out before engaging too deeply on this.

        Two points:

First, he was ‘outed’ by Maine Wire (a far-right news site; same story got picked up by the Daily Caller) as working with the Socialist Rifle Association some time after the pandemic to train people in gun safety and marksmanship. The SRA is very explicitly anti-fascist, and radically inclusive; they are pro-LGBTQ+, pro-feminism, etc. If he had genuine Nazi leanings, I highly doubt that he’d be helping the SRA in any way. That’s not dispositive, but it’s a pretty solid indicator that, at the very least he believes that 2A rights are for everyone, and not just people like him.

Second, you are correct that we don’t know for sure that he is who he says he is. I know people through the Liberal Gun Club that knew him growing up, and say “he’s the real deal”, but that’s not proof. On the other hand, we know exactly who Susan Collins is. We also know exactly who Janet Mills is. And Mills is a politics-as-usual Democrat. She’s fine, really, she’s very acceptable as a governor. She was Chuck Schumer’s personal pick for the next Maine senator (which, IMO, should be a huge fucking red flag right there; no one in a contested primary that’s endorsed by Schumer or Jeffries should be selected as a nominee). She simply is not up to the task of being a senator, not at this time in history. Biden was politics as usual, and the politics as usual is exactly what got us Trump 2.0.

So, is (was, now that Mills is out) Platner a gamble? Yes. But he’s a gamble where the two choices that are known are both not acceptable.

I appreciate context on that first part, and Ive always believed his story on his tattoo, being a “it was a tattoo shop pick and i was military. It looked cool.” I didnt know it was a nazi tattoo either.

On his race, may e i havent been clear but id pick this guy every time. I wish he didnt have his baggage but ill take what i can get

He was def. my choice over Mills. There was a guy named Tucker that was also running, he seemed good, no baggage I know of, but he didn’t seem to get any traction.

I only knew it was specifically a Nazi symbol because of Death In June. Back when I lived in Chicago, the were doing a show in the city, and a number of people I knew were excited to see them. A lot of other people I knew were trying to tell those people that DIG was explicitly pro-fascist. I asked why they said that, and oof… Apparently DIG uses the totenkopf in cover art, AND collaborated for a long time with Boyd Rice, who is very well known for his strong fascist stances. That was, I dunno, something like 2010? I’d definitely been interested in Nazi shit, reading a lot about WWII, but the totenkopf in particular wasn’t something that I’d recognized as being explicitly a Nazi symbol. So, yeah, his story seems plausible to me. I know a lot of people said that the cover-up was Fenris, and therefore he was using Norse imagery which is ALSO fascist, but I found an interview with the tattoo artist, and she said she was using Celtic imagery. Soooooo…

Good news! The party destroying the country is not the Democrats I can tell because the other one has control of everything and the Democrats have control of nothing, and it’s being taken down really fast.

Dems deserve their fair share of the blame for enabling the ongoing authoritarian coup and deliberately undermining people trying to fight against it.

The fascist elites who seized control of the nation need the republicans to carry out their will and they need the dems to sabotage the people’s attempts to fight back.

Impeachment is a meaningless bureaucratic process with no impact at all - the appearance of action without any effect. Perfect for the dems.

30% of US adults voted for trump in '24. In a democracy that would be a generational level defeat, not full control of congress and the executive. We just do not live any a democracy and trump does not represent the wishes of the US electorate.

              @Hegar @TropicalDingdong @corsicanguppy

77 million crayon eaters voted for this guy and another 90 million stayed home because politics doesn’t affect them. Don’t kid yourself. Trump perfectly represents Republicans and “moderates/independents.”

Impeachments are absolutely not meaningless, but that you think they are isn’t surprising. The Democrats aren’t the problem in this country and the sooner the people figure that out the sooner we can move forward.

I know, probably, far more than you do about Graham. I’ve met them. I’ve been on several zoom calls with them and they’ve answered my questions directly. One of the org’s I volunteered with was one of the first to endorse him.

So just, maybe try to explain your utterly incoherent statement, because other wise it looks like you replied to the wrong post.

Oh, hey, a Mainer? Where you at? I’m in the county.

I’ve only managed to catch one town hall, and it was back in the fall. He was really good, told people to stop heckling the MAGA that stormed out in a huff; just seemed like a very decent, genuine guy. I hope the person we have seen is who he really is, but I also understand people being really gun-shy after Fetterman. I mean, I’ve got reservations, but I was absolutely going to vote for him in the primary over Mills.

No not a Mainer, but a political org I’ve been a volunteer with for almost a decade has deep ties in Maine, and we endorsed early on. One of our main organizers/ founders is based out of Maine (Perry O’brian), and we’ve also got connections with one of the groups that recruited Graham, so he was on our radar very early on.
