The EU is pushing new rules under the Digital Markets Act (DMA) that could force Google to share parts of its search data (queries, rankings, clicks, etc.) with competitors.
The idea is to improve competition and reduce Big Tech dominance , even allowing smaller search engines and AI tools to access this data.
But it raises some real questions:
-
Does this improve transparency… or just shift control?
-
Can data be shared safely without hurting privacy?
-
Will search results actually get better, or just more complex?
Interesting moment where regulation, privacy, and control over information all collide.
