We’ve seen a lot of spam come from lemmy.org and we have therefore defederated from their instance. For the moment they have open registrations which only require filling out a simple captcha to create an account which many people abuse.

The admin is active but rarely takes moderation actions, but I’ve sent a DM to them with our concerns. We’ll see how permanent this is.

Please excuse my ignorance, I’m still barely clear on how everything works, but what instance is lemmy.org? Clicking that link seems to bring up a ton of different instances, so I’m not really understanding what the impact of this is.

    To spare folks a click…

As of this moment (Wed Apr 22 2026 17:41-ish UTC), the most recent 20 posts on lemmy.org are from the user @MyDick@lemmy.org, posting in a new community (lemmy.org/c/mydick). The community includes only these 20 new posts, all of which are all pornographic and feature fetishized feminine transgender bodies (of questionable authenticity). The posts were all made in fairly quick succession (within a 20-minute timespan),.

Subjectivity notwithstanding, it’s pretty tasteless content. That being said, the posts aren’t all that different from other communities built around sharing dull pornography in the same light.

As a general rule, does blahaj.zone de-fed instances for hosting porn?

( For context, I’m asking to learn more about blahaj.zone’s curation policies, not asking rhetorically to start an argument. :)

Every server is their own boat. Lemmy.blahaj.zone is one boat that I’m on. You’re on the sh.itjust.works boat. And we’re talking about the lemmy.org boat.

On each boat their members can make communities. Like here we’re in the “main” community on the lemmy.blahaj.zone boat.

When two servers are federated then they take their boats and dock to each other, allowing members to view communities from the other boat. Since you’re reading this post that means your boat (sh.itjust.works) and my boat (lemmy.blahaj.zone) are federated and you can access our community from your boat.

When a server is defederated that means the boats are going to be independent and users from these two boats won’t be able to access communities from each other. In this case specifically for you it means nothing because you’re on neither lemmy.blahaj.zone or lemmy.org. but since i am on lemmy.blahaj.zone then for me it means i won’t be able to view new content from lemmy.org boat or any of its communities

It sounds bad, but the federation (and defederation) is a strength. It allows servers to choose who they want to talk to. Rather than making things an all-or-none situation like reddit where you can be on reddit or not, with the fediverse you can choose to be on many different boats and each boat has their own vibe and boats they talk to. Like right now there’s some drama with the lemmy.world server and some people are deciding they don’t want to be on a server where, at best, the admin is acting like a child.
